There are two new kids at school. Twin brothers - one straight-laced and buttoned-up, the other a rebel in a leather jacket - and they've transferred in with trouble for the Spell Checkers. Jesse finds romance, but for Cynthia, it's rivalry. She and the good brother compete for student body president, while Kimmie tries to find out who murdered the last one. Dark magic is afoot, as well as dark humor, in the second mystical volume of Oni's latest hit series!
More gruesome and less magical than the first volume. I’m not really getting into the series after all but I’m glad to have made it to the second volume at least before making up my mind about it.
Favourite Quotes:
"I see what you see, so try not to traumatize me."
"No boy has ever given me flowers before. They aren’t a language I speak."
So I bought volumes 1-3 at Comic Con last year. I read volume 1 last month and it was by far the worst thing I read last year, maybe ever, so why did I read volume 2 you ask? Because I had already paid for it, and partly a bad trainwreck that I can't look away from and partly a belief that it had to get better. And it did... slightly. I didn't want to strangle the main characters this time, but they were still extremely obnoxious. I will read volume 3, because it is paid for, then all three will get sold to the used book store, because that much vapid - ness can not be on my book shelf with my other books.
I liked it as well, as the stakes were higher than the first, but the characters were starting to get a little grating. I am all for sass, but they were outright nasty to each other, to the point where you wondered "why"? In the first book, there was a reasons. Here? Not so much.
