Design Language, Interpretive Edition

Rate this book
In this unique volume, teacher and designer Tim McCreight has collected sixty words that show up frequently when we discuss the artifacts in our world. Gorgeous objects and images are shown along with commentary on the concepts of design. The premise of the book, made plain in worlds and pictures, is that design is not something reserved for art students, but a part of the experience of being human.

Another favorite of my design books - simply an alphabetical reference of design terms and concepts. McCreight does not dumb it down, rather challenges a reader to delve in to the complexity and even contradictions held in some of the ideas. Sparks much more creative contemplation rather than an urge to know "truths"

I purchased this book when it was first published. I've read it every year since. It's the perfect format to keep by the bedside and read a page a day.

I notice something new or obtain a different understanding of a term upon each rereading. Often in a persons growth and development as a craftsman/designer/artist you find the basic concepts are the foundations which continue to inform and inspire.

This little gem does that and more.

This is more of a booklet then a book. It gives vocabulary used in art like different styles and forms. It is pretty basic but could be used as a vocabulary list for a art teacher to teach their students. It is basically a 100 word art dictionary.

Very Well Written

The author gives a different look at very used words for a variety of common words. As well, on depth explanations for the reasoning. Cheap in price and 10/10 would buy again.

This is a very small book that contains definitions of design terms and the the implications for visual art. Basic info, but I dip into it now and again.
