I was hoping for more ... what? Magic? Insights? Diversity? Yep. Nope. The interviews began to resemble the same responses to similar questions, far too often. As a songwriter, interviews with musicians intrigue me. Not enough of that magic here for me.

A good compilation of interviews with America's most influential living songwriters. Each one is just a couple pages making it a perfect bathroom book. IT SAYS WORLD, BUT IT MEANS AMERICA. - there are none of the great British songwriters AND they left out interviews with some people who in my mind are America's most inlfuential. Also there were many country writers I had never heard of... but american songwriter magazine is published out of nashville, and country albums usually have multiple writers each, so i guess that stands to reason.

This was a fun read. I like getting into the songwriter's head and finding out about the songwriting process. I also found out that some people are jerks and it's evident by reading their interview.
