Jonah Hex, a mysterious bounty hunter and thinking man's killer, was a hero to some and a villain to others - and his name was spoken in whispers. He had no friends but he did have two companions: one was death and the other: the smell of gun smoke. More Jonah Hex stories from the mind of Justin Gray. Sadly, I'm beginning to wonder how many more tales he has left to tell.

After dealing with godawful AT&T tech support I'm back. Sure I could have done this using my phone, but I like using a keyboard for items that are more than a few lines.

I'm possibly rating this a little higher than I should. Not that Gray and Palmiotti did not turn their usual good job. My inner fan boy escaped during this collection's one and done stories. I was never a big fan of Michael Fleischer's run with the character, but Gray and Palmiotti bring back some features from that run. Such

He had no friends but he did have two companions: one was death and the other: the smell of gun smoke. Jonah Hex has dealt with some wicked, vile people in his time, but never has he met someone who managed to get under his skin quite like the bandit known as Loco. Most bounties don't upset Hex, but this time, as they say, it's personal. And a pivotal p ...more

Jonah Hex. His two friends- 'death and the acrid smell of gun smoke".
I began reading the stories of Jonah Hex in no particular order. I assume it's okay, especially since every book I've collected seemingly has no particular order that I can fathom.
I figure I'll be able to piece his story together after I collect ALL the books.
Yes, they're still blazing new trails of his life. It was a full one. 1000 people couldn't expect to have such a full life.

In this book, I was a goner! Jeff Lemire creat

All the stories are well-paced and well-told, so I don't feel right giving this collection less than 3 stars. I just personally don't like single-shot Jonah Hex, and that's all this collection is. I know that Hex's story will always be the same--he is the big bad, another person will show up and try to be the big bad, someone will be horribly murdered, Hex goes on to his next adventure--and I have no problem with the formula. Palomotti and Gray do their best to keep the "who gets shot down by Jo ...more

And so it ends. 70 issues of some of the best comics storytelling of all time, and the final ten issues are collected here. Palmiotti and Gray, in putting their spin on an old character, told a myriad of stories about one of the great badass jerks of the Western genre. Tough, brutally violent, sometimes funny and always entertaining. Hex is a great character, and was surrounded by great supporting characters. And the revolving art team was a wonderful idea too. Jordi Bernet turned out to be the ...more

There seem to be a few simple rules for writing Jonah Hex. He will kill people. He will want to be left alone. Hidden depths will be hinted at. In some ways he reminded me of Han Solo. This is my first Jonah Hex book, and maybe I've read all I want to? The variations on the story above played over and over without an overarching plot.

The better of volumes 9, 10 and 11 because of the philosophical aspects that seem to be missing from Jonah Hex stories.

Also being a fan of Jeff Lemire, seeing his art was a breath of fresh air in how I see Jonah. He made him look sad and pathetic in his drunkenness, but only as a symbol of vulnerability in all men.

All in all my favorite of the series thus far.

A lot of hit & misses here..... The good stories make it Worth a gander though. But be warned, The art is all over the map in quality. Some of it is pretty awful. I particularly liked the final 2 stories, they probably knew the title was ending.

Some great stories in here. Jonah Hex does not disappoint (well, part from Hex and the less said the better about that revamp). It is great to see a comic other than a super hero stand the test of time. The last story was very poignant having read the original 'last' story of Jonah.

Now.... that was a bit of a rushed ending to this series of Jonah Hex.
Elsewhere: More single issue stories, some touching, some boring, all brutal. Same could be said about the art also.
