'Real' here refers to Real with a capital R. Readers who have some background understanding of Freud, Lacan, Baudrillard, Derrida, Foucault, Deleuze and Žižek (critical theory) would be thoroughly engaged with this book. That said, her writing style is clear and accessible which enabled me to maintain my interest even when she used a theoretical approach I am not familiar with. Overall, I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in an ideological analysis of the documentary form.
