Hello Readers!!

Well I have 2 questions for you....

1) Have you read this book??

2) If not,WHY haven't you read this yet??

I was not going to write a review for this. But then I saw that this book is not very well-known.So I had to write one.

So first of all let me tell you how pleasantly surprised I was by the way this book turned out to be.I actually loved it.If it was not for a few abrupt things and the fact that I had already guessed who the evil dude in this story was,I woul

A GR friend recently pointed out the tendency readers have to react negatively when a book disappoints us—the better the author, the sharper the disappointment, and the more unforgiving our reaction. I myself tend to be harder on books that tantalize me with a plotline or set of characters I really, really like and then don’t deliver the way I think they should, as opposed to books that don’t disappoint me because I never had much in the way of expectations for them. (Not to mention those boo

This book was great! It was actually very very funny and had me laughing out loud a number of times! Especially Kevin and Connor's warped sense of humor. There were so many one-liners in this book that I didnt stop reading until I finished it at 3am!! Its a good thing I dont work today!

The chemistry between the H/H was slow to build, but once it did, what a chemistry it was! The plot was fantastic... children missing and a psychic former police detective called in to help.... Did I mention the

About 6 mths ago I had a mass clear out on my Kindle and this got deleted. There were about 4 books I regretted losing straight away and this was one of them. I have since re purchased them all, having just finished rereading this I can honestly say it was worth every penny to get this fabulous story back on my Kindle, where it is now firmly fixed in my Do Not Delete section. Duh!

It was a great read the first time round but even better the second. No plot re hashes in this review but I must say

Despite being a serial killer mystery with some potentially emotional sub-plots, IMO this book is more of a lighthearted romp. The banter between the MCs is one of the best things about it. Their interactions with the secondary characters are also often fun.

The guys' relationship progresses fast, and becomes solid fairly early in the book, although lingering insecurity on Kevin's part threatens to undermine them. It felt as though their being together fell into place a bit easily, given what ea
***Audio Review*** On the whole not too bad, but the errors rose as the narration progressed. Not too good at female voices unfortunately, but we can't have everything I suppose 😕. 3.5 stars.

This was a very interesting read, although I was annoyed about the missing words and poor spelling (what's up with these proof readers??). I am very sceptical in general about psychics, but the character Kevin really draws you in to his world, including all of the pain he has to endure whilst his 'gift' is d

Kevin is an ex cop who after a near fatal accident gained some psychic abilities. Kevin was left with many issues after the accident and has been living a secluded life in Wyoming, estranged from his family back in LA. His brother in law who is a police captain in LA request his help to find a person who has been snatching boys...he agrees to help and gets assigned to Connor Dougal a detective on the case that is highly skeptical about anything paranormal, and he has his reasons...and then thin

Kevin Quinn has psychic abilities he developed after a car accident that nearly took his life. He doesn't have any control over them, and has met with limited success when trying to use them to help different police agencies. However, when his brother-in-law calls the week before Christmas, Kevin is convinced to go home to Southern California to try to find the missing boys and/or their abductor/killer.

Connor Dougal is the new detective assigned to shadow Kevin. But Connor has his own demons th

This is the second title from Z.A. Maxfield that I read after "Crossing Borders". While I like this slightly better that "Crossing Borders" (maybe because it's half a mystery novel and mystery has always been my first love) but I feel like something disconnect me from the story. Like there is something missing in between the paragraph or chapter. Like it's jumping from one scene to another, which makes it slightly difficult for my brain to follow. Maybe it's poor editing but it makes t

An UnexPectEd BEAutY!

I did NOT expect to find such a sweet, lovely romance imbedded in this book. It starts off a wee bit slow, but gosh it develops into a very nice love story with a touch of picked up midway through, and in the end I had only one word---->LOVED!

A Fabulous 4.5 Star, Almost a Perfect Read. Cuz, I had some barley there niggles in this book.

2.5 stars.

I feel a bit torn about my rating for The Long Way Home, which is pretty much par for the course with this author. In my experience, Z.A. Maxfield's writing tends to alternate between flashes of brilliance and total WTF moments, and this book is no exception. I like the characters and the premise, and some of the scenes are very well done. Unfortunately, this book has way too many problems to be a satisfying read.

One of my biggest pet peeves with Maxfield's books is that she tends to

Almost three stars but not quite.

I feel like I'm swimming against the tide with this book. Lots of people absolutely loved it, so I should probably ignore my review if I were you :).

I can't put my finger on why I struggled with it. The writing wasn't bad and the couple were engaging enough but I found after the first third the book dragged a little. The romance is established fairly quickly and after that the book started to get a bit saggy. There were scenes which didn't further either the rel

No. This book has obviously found its fans. Good. I'm not one. I read this for a challenge, and I don't think I've read something with so much grim determination since school. I'm tired of forgiving in this genre. I'm going to try keeping this polite.

As mystery - there is no suspect, then only one possibility offered. No.
As romance - two heroes batting each other, squealing and running away giggling. Alternating treating each other and behaving like children. Not my thing.
Secondary cast - treat

In this ebook, there were parts that I really loved, other stuff that just boggled my mind. I loved that the guys talked and behaved like guys, not teenage girls. The mystery was quite interesting too. And the sex was hot, of course. On the other hand, some of the characters' reactions just didn't sit well with me - I couldn't figure out how they got from point A to point D emotionally - and the story itself was quite long too so it dragged a bit in places. Overall though, I liked it a lot. I wi ...more
This book was first published in 2008, so my first instinct is to say "Well, she was a baby writer back then" but really, one would think that even back then it would have been possible to give the book at least a minimum amount of editing. The copyediting is terrible - typos, missing words, punctuation - even the lowliest beta reader could have spotted most of the errors. As for the story - well, that could have used a little red ink as well. Some tightning up would do wonders for the flow but ...more

BEWARE! At the very beginning of this story, first few pages, the character's dog dies. I don't deal with that well so I felt I needed to put that out to like minded people. It came up to play a few times, too, so beware. Still, I loved this story and it was just another from Maxfield who I've begun to expect the best from. It was fast-paced and suspenseful. The plot was good if not unique, although I figured out the bad guy as soon as (view spoiler). I liked the way ...more

Re-read for a test-of-time challenge.

You can't go wrong with ZA Maxfield and she delivers again with this romance between psychic, Kevin Quinn and skeptical cop, Connor Dougal. Connor doesn't buy the woohoo but he slowly falls for the vulnerable, sensitive Quinn. What elevates this gay romance is how the relationship between these two builds along with the unfolding of a well-done mystery about the disappearance of local young boys. Connor has his own past demons to deal with and it is sweet tha

I lost faith in this genre and returned to the usual boy thing of thrillers, action and well known authors. Then I needed to have a feel good, lovey, happy ever after moment, the type with real characters and a touch of "Will they? Won't they?" Always good when the tear wells and then actually escapes, rolls down the cheek and drips off the chin, on a packed train to the Dorset coast!?
Yeah! I loved it. This novel ticked all the boxes for me.
This was a hard one to rate. It had the makings of a great story, very complex and well developed. I liked both the guys. But it took me a while to feel their connection. I felt like they were sharing a little too much too quickly, despite them bantering and Conner acting like he kinda didn't like Kevin on principle. Then all of a sudden he tells Carl, "he's mine." I actually went back to check if I missed something in the conversation. That happened several times, where there was a too sudden s ...more

Wow, I really liked this book! The characters, the storyline, the characters, the hot sex, the characters, and last but definitely not least: The characters..

Kevin and Connor.. God.. I loved those two together..

Connor.. Grrr.. He's sooo my new favorite guy.. I just loved (and I mean LOVED!) him! The way he acted, the way he handled Kev, the way he talked to Kev.. The way he talked to Kev!!! So freakin hot!

I loved how Kevin started out as the alpha male, but then let this younger guy, completel
Love this book and loved this couple. Paranormal books involving "psychics" don't often agree with me. I have an aversion to snake oil salesmen of all stripes and so, sometimes I have trouble suspending my disbelief in order to enjoy a book like this.

Ok, that said, Kevin was awesome. He didn't want attention at all and he didn't want his "gift". Being roped into helping his brother-in-law with a case involving missing boys wasn't something he wanted, but he does want to help if he actually can.

Ever since an accident, Kevin Quinn has had psychometric abilities. This is the ability to learn things about an object or its owner through touch. Kevin avoids using this skill until he learns from his brother-in-law that boys are going missing. Connor Dougal is a new cop assigned to assist Kevin. Connor is a skeptic, but it's hard to refute Kevin's gift when Connor sees Kevin's gift in action.

Connor and Kevin are a wonderful team. The mystery was pretty good although it's pretty obvious early
As a person who has made a life study of second sight (no I'm not kidding, if you google my name you can find some of my research along with the fact that I come from a psychic family), I get really pissed when it's done wrong. I can't tell you how many books I've put down or how many movies my friends and I have walked out of. The fact that the author actually put in the time to respectfully and accurately portray second sight gift means a lot to me. For that alone I would give this a five star ...more
I DFN maybe a third of the way through.
God, I really like the idea of this book, and the plot in general is just awesome.. but I couldn't. The characters had a weird development and suddenly decided they liked each other and their dialogue was so weird. Sometimes I had to reread sentences like three times to even understand what was happening.
