My daughter (aged 8) absolutely adores this book. It's funny, pacey with great characterisations, plenty of magic and a couple of brilliant baddies. It's also a great learner reader ..but easy for parents to read along too.. Thoroughly recommended

Magic Molly 1–The Mirror Maze was a fun read for kids with elements of the classics that, in my opinion, need to be kept alive. I loved the fact that Molly’s parents aren’t the most fabulously successful witch/wizard ever, and that they have had a little hitch that has sent them to the void, giving Molly a nice little problem to solve. That they earn their living at the fairground is a great setting - the magic of the fairground less common these days in my part of the UK. Granny Whitewand is a ...more

What I liked and disliked about it:

I thought that the story was a really fun adventure and I really want to read the next books. I liked that it wasn't too long of a book but it ended in a way that I really want to know what happens next because I want to know what happens to her Mom.

I liked that the way her parents disappeared in the middle of doing

Born the child of a High Witch and a Magician who uses real magic, Molly Miggins lives in an enchanted world many would envy. Molly’s parents, The Great Rudolpho and the High Witch, are preparing for a live vanishing act at the funfair when – whoosh! They actually do vanish!
Molly looks backstage in the hope of finding them. Suddenly out of the mist appears a wizard, from The Magic Council, who tells her she is the only who can rescue her parents and bring them back. But, for this purpose Molly m

This is a fun story of Molly, a young witch-in-the-making. When her parents perform a magic trick and disappear into the 'Void' Molly learns that it will be up to her to begin her magic career early in order to save them. There are some great characters including Henrietta Havelots, the spoiled, rich kid who will do anything to upset Molly's plans.
This is the first in a series and so the whole story is not resolved at the end of the book. That did not detract from the enjoyment of the book thou

This great little story about a young witch and what happens after the sudden disappearance of her parents during a magic show has all the elements of a good story including, a naughty rival for the young witch, a new best friend, a mysterious Wizard, a wonky wand, a bent pointy hat and an ancient Granny with an unpredictable Flying Broomstick - what could POSSIBLY go wrong!

Blyton with knobs on.
Surprised and delighted with the quality of this read. Molly, her wonderful parents and the supporting cast are simply sublime, brought to life with the skill of a talented writer. No superfluous words, no over-writing, no errors to muddy the flow and the result is an entertaining story which leaps from the page, grabs you by the ears and hurls you onwards with affable humour and succinct yet colourful imagery. I’d like to see this author write something for adults. 6 out of
