Text to Self-Connection

I love this book; I used to read it to my daughter often. In the book there is a little girl named Karly who has an imaginary friend named Natasha. Natasha was a great friend to Karly. She taught her the importance of loving herself and knowing in her heart who she really is. In the book there is a problem that arose. Karly was being made fun of at school because she was quiet and smart. Because of this she forgot who she was and started believing what others said about her. I can relate to this book because when I was in Elementary School, I was diagnosed with alopecia, and I lost all my hair. Well, of Corse the kids would laugh and point at me some adults would do the same thing. During this time I would distance myself from everyone and just keep to myself. Before this happened, I was outgoing and having fun. Because of my situation I too forgot who I was. Karly had Natasha who reminded her who she was. My mom was my friend. Natasha told Karly to live her life inside out, so Karly started wearing her socks inside out to remind her to live her life inside out. My mom told me God does not make any mistakes what he did in my life serves a purpose. I did not know that purpose until I had my daughter, and she was diagnosed with Sickle Cell. Because I experienced this, I was able to tell her to live inside out. Regardless of your circumstance know who you are inside and pour that onto the world.

This would be a great book to promote self-esteem and remind children who they really are and that it is OK to be themselves! It is about a girl named Karly who has an imaginary friend named Natasha. Natasha is actually a "spirit" which is why nobody can see her except Karly. They play and do lots of fun things together. Natasha tells Karly that she came to help her find her spirit on the inside and not be afraid to let that show. Natasha leaves and Karly lives her daily life but really misses Natasha. After a while, Karly forgets about her imaginary friend. How will she ever remember? Karly thinks of a funny way that children could connect to and possibly even do. She turns her socks inside out so that she remembers to live inside out and not worry about what people say or think about her. Very empowering.

This was a great story about a girl with an imaginary friend who teaches about her spirit that lives in her heart. When she goes off to school, she loses the imaginary friend in all of the excitement. But she is lonely at school, and comes back home to her imaginary friend and is reminded of the importance of loving herself. She decides to wear her socks inside out as a constant reminder. This is great for kids who might feel lonely or shy to reassure them about how important it is to honor yourself.
