Another great L. Neil Smith adventure

L. Neil Smith tells great stories. Set in deep space, Mars & the asteroids the Ngu family battles environmental terrorists bent on destroying them and all space exploration forever. For the good of humanity, with them in charge of what's good, of course.

CERES is a solid sequel to L. Neil Smith's classic novel PALLAS. The Ngu family are fascinating folks with astute minds for freedom, individualism and business. Yes, this is libertarian science fiction and Smith pulls no punches. The story revolves around Llyra Ngu, whose goal is to win an ice skating competition on Earth; and her brother, Wilson Ngu, who aspires to be successful at harvesting asteroids for valuable minerals. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I enjoyed this book - the second in the Ngu family saga - more than I had it's forerunner. The story felt better paced, and I enjoyed the references to Sci-Fi and geek culture. (I think I actually laughed out loud on learning the name of the astronomical observatory on the dark side of the moon.) ...more
