"1999" is an angsty and widely varied series about a bunch of teenagers. One of them is the son of a drug lord and so as you can imagine, all sorts of shit goes down, surrounded by a backdrop of convoluted and fluctuating interpersonal relationships.

This is a plot heavy manga with some mildly-explicit sexual activity.

Mizushiro Setona (水城せとな in Japanese, or 水城雪可奈 in Chinese language) is a popular mangaka who started out in the dōjinshi circles.

Her first real dabble in the world of creating manga was in 1985 when she participated in the publication of a dōjinshi. She remained active in the dōjinshi world until her debut in 1993 with the short single "Fuyu ga Owarou Toshiteita" (Winter Was Ending) that ran in Shōgakukan's Puchi Comic magazine.
Though her current drawing style is high on the aesthetic value, her earlier works had less finesse. Regardless of the lesser emphasis on the visual elements in her earlier works, her popularity grew largely due to her unparalleled grasp for storytelling. Her works are noted for their slightly askew plots and deep exploration of the human psyche. Even her lighthearted Shōjo works usually have darker underlying elements. With an incomparable ability to craft stories that puzzle, sadden, assure, pervert, and move the depths of one's heart, she has gained a cult-like following. Her works include shojo, josei, and yaoi, and have been translated into multiple languages, including English, Italian, French and German.

Memang sih jauh lebih hopeful ending-nya ketimbang yg Romeo Juliet, tapi tetap saja aku merasa ending-nya tragis. T____T
Vol 1 ---> next page, next, next, next...shit, I can't stop reading this series...
Vol 2 ---> this volume is the last
Vol 3 ---> this book is really the last one, I mean it, I have to get up early!
Vol 4 ---> okay, this is the LAST book of series, I can't sleep peacefully if I don't know the ending!!

And there, kurang tidur deh jadinya, lengkap dengan mata panda....

Inilah salah satu komik yg membuatmu memberikan rating yg tinggi untuk plotnya biarpun gambarnya tidak begitu bagus. Memang bagiku, gambar sebagus apapun kalo plotnya ga berbobot dan eksekusinya nol besar ya tetap saja rating-nya bakal kuberi 1-2 stars saja.

it is so melodramatic at times it's a bit funny, but at the same time the melodrama is the point, no? a story that seemed to cater specifically to my tastes it is actually a little bit scary.........
and even though i like this 90s art style it is so hard to tell characters apart at first..... sigh.
but the story and the way it is told is so refreshing to see i can't say i have read any other BL like this one. (tragedy enjoyers when the story ends in tragedy :D )
this is going to the all time faves list

One of my favorites --if not my favorite-- ever since I read it for the first time, maybe a decade ago.

I reread it periodically and it really holds up.

Warning: This review includes all volumes of this manga and may contain spoilers.

While the art may need some getting used to, the story is just enthralling. The plot may seem cliche to some- two people from different sides of a war, meet and fall in love- but the story was done wonderfully. This manga was full of angst, which made me like it a lot. My only quirk about this one was the art. I didn't think it was ugly, per se. I just found myself getting confused with some of the characters and wondering why they all looked alike. That's all. Nothing too big. It still didn't stop me from enjoying the story.
