I read this back twentysome years ago when it was first published by Eerdmans. I picked it back up in the fall of 2019. I'll probably finish my second reading around the New Year.

James Houston pulls ideas from the poets, theologians, philosophers and the novelists to demonstrate why creation instead of nature is central to Christian Theism. While the book was written over forty years ago, it is still offers a deep wisdom as we enter the 3rd decade of the 21st century. And it is that chapter, "Living Wisely Before the Creator" that I appreciated the most. Houston dispels the myth that happiness is the supreme virtue.
Also, Houston's view of language and the semiotic meaning of naming things reminded me of some of the philosophy of Walker Percy, whose name, oddly enough, does not appear in the book.
