Cute picture book about the desert creatures and things one would see during the dy and night. Figured out there is a hidden clue on each page which foretells what will be displayed on the following page. Nathan enjoyed looking for those clues.

This is a book that I've had my eye on for quite awhile, and I finally found it in a used bookstore. I felt so drawn to it, because I lived in Arizona for 5 years, close to the Sonoran Desert, and this book made me shiver!
The illustrations were absolutely incredibly and bright. The author also put in a hidden little quail hidden somewhere on each page. The book explained what the animals ate, where they slept and when, and who their friends and enemies were.
This would be a perfect book to introduce the desert to children, the animals in the desert and the different environment they live intern that which we live in.

This is a beautifully illustrated book with fun rhymes. It has a clever seek and find aspect to it. At the end there is a page with more info about each of the animals featured.

Michelle and Kyden had to go home today so the kids and I read this in anticipation of seeing The Colby’s in the Sonoran desert soon.

The poetry is delightful and the illustrations colorful, including many hide and seek elements such as the quail in each illustration and clues to the next creature in the book. Nice page of Sonoran Desert animal facts or field notes as they are described on the last page.

Wonderful illustrations, fun rhyming text, and interesting info about each animal featured in the book. Love the added fun of searching for the animal from the previous page and the hint of what animal is coming up next--plus the little quail who pops up throughout the book.

This colorful, adventurous yet informational read is full of rhyme. The characters are individually described in a playful way and the illustrations fall hand in hand with the text and beyond giving the setting the ability to yet tell another story about desert life.
The time changes from night into day showing the variety of life the desert holds. At night while we sleep the moon shines, shadows dance, stingers lash and tiny feet hop. As day comes the critters change, a new day begins and rodents hurry from slithering fury. Read and let the Desert be painted right before your eyes.

I love the illustrations! I love hunting for the animals in the shadows and the quail on every page. I'm not so fond of the simple, four lined rhymed verses. I imagine they're just fine for really young children, but somehow they seem a little forced to me, they don't flow and they're very simple. The "field notes" in the back of the book are an excellent addition, I wouldn't even mind if they were ON the page they referred to.....Illustrations (5) Text (2) for a rating of 3.5.
