I thought a long while of what I wanted to say about this book and have come up with the following statement: it is not what you’re used to. Not as a reader, at least. There is a vague sequence of events, but do not expect a linear storyline because you will not get it.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is a bad thing, just a different thing. The book is quite amusing, with many funny moments as well as pretty uncomfortable ones. All in all, they balance each other out. For me, it was

A married man expounds on his twenty-something-year marriage and the "affairs" they both had, as well as his thoughts of the general universe and humanity and a few other dozen things.

I found this book both engrossing and maddening at the same time. First, it's written as a long, loose ramble, as if you were sitting with a friend in a living room at 4am (drunk and possibly stoned too) listening to his life story for 300 pages. Which is not entirely a bad thing - the narrator is engaging, thought

The inside of George's head is a non-linear thought process that ambles its way around many issues and ultimately comes around to a startling revelation.

In the beginning, George discovers that his wife of 24 years has had an affair. But George's internal reaction is not what you'd expect, it's better.

The way the narrator examines the "what ifs" and "maybe this or maybe that" is exactly the way my brain works - creating detailed explanations that change continually, based on what new information

I didn't know what category to put this book into so I decided not to categorize it. Definitely never read a book like it! It is written in the first-person style (by George!). George writes as though he is talking to you and I liked that aspect of it specifically because of the content. George is a husband and father. However, he finds himself living quite the quandary. While finding out his 24 year old marriage has been, in part, with a cheating wife he takes you through his very personal emot ...more
A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol)
George is man who discovers his wife of 24 years had an affair. He uses this event as the catalyst to making this book/journal.

What can I say about this book? It rambles on with really no pattern, jumping from one point to the next and back again. George is clearly unhappy in his marriage though he swears he’s not. He makes it seem as if his wife is a cold bitch, but then he says she’s not and swears he loves her. I don’t know how these two have stayed married. The constant rambling irritated me

Looking on Amazon, this book has got some bad reviews. When I read the synopsis for the book for 'Adopt an Indie Month' it sounded really intriguing. I really enjoyed this book. It tells the tale of George, an average married man, who dreams of an open marriage and some excitement in his life. He has an online flirtation with a girl called Lara, and his life and emotions are awakened. Then Lara cuts off all contact, and he finds out that his wife, who was opposed to a marriage that veered from t ...more

This book was frustrating as hell to finish. It's about a guy and his dissatisfaction with his wife, Abby, who he just found out is having an affair. And is he fine with it? And he wants an open marriage, and blah blah blah. It's written in the first person, with LOTS of typos, and it jumps around a lot, like that friend you have who gets drunk and keeps talking and forgets what he says so he goes backwards and repeats himself a little. I'm not sure if this is actually a "story" with characters, ...more

I started out really liking this story, but then it kind of floundered. At a few points I found myself scanning to find the point in a paragraph or even in a chapter. Also, I could never decide if I actually liked George or not. Sometimes I just felt sorry for him. The biggest problem, though, is that the main impetus for the story turns out to not to have happened but the reader never gets to find out what caused the misunderstanding. Frustrating.
