A native of south Louisiana, Farrah Rochon officially began her writing career while waiting in between classes in the student lounge at Xavier University of Louisiana. After earning her Bachelors of Science degree and a Masters of Arts from Southeastern Louisiana University, Farrah decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a published novelist. She was named Shades of Romance Magazine's Best New Author of 2007. Her debut novel, Deliver Me, the first in her Holmes Brothers series, garnered rave reviews, earning Farrah several SORMAG Readers' Choice Awards.
In September 2010, Farrah joined the Kimani Romance family with the launch of her new series that follows the life of the fictional New York Sabers football team.
When she is not writing in her favorite coffee shop, Farrah spends most of her time reading her favorite romance novels, hanging around on Twitter, and trying to attend as many Broadway shows as her budget will allow. An admitted sports fanatic, Farrah feeds her addiction to football by watching New Orleans Saints games on Sunday afternoons.
The story was cute, but there was no wow factor. Jared's character seemed very genuine to me. Chyna was strong willed, and took care of herself, but her hang ups about Jared spending his money on her kind of put a damper on the story. I completely understood her view of financial independence but at times it felt like too much especially when they made the unexpected trip to the vet and Jared offered to pay the bill and she still refused him. Although Chyna fought them getting together really hard, when they finally started dating the storyline became more interesting. The only thing I didn't like about this book is these two got back together in the last two pages and the story was just over. I feel like the reader is left hanging. The story desperately needed an epilogue. I would have liked to know what happened between these two now that Jared was essentially her boss at the dance studio. Was Chyna able to get over her hang ups about money? Something was definitely missing at the end.
Interesting story but a little annoying with how much money was focused on by the characters. Once the characters get down to it that was all they seemed to do.
CW: Addiction, Rich/Poor Dynamics, Football Culture, Work Place Dynamics
Between 3 and 3.5 stars - this series is low stakes and fun, especially for football fans, though not always super memorable. I didn’t love the message of the heroine saying no and the hero just pressing until she gives in, but I did like the hero’s growth to understand he couldn’t get his worth from giving to others.
Small thing, but I think i would have been more invested in the hero if we had seen him walk in on his girlfriend with his teammate, rather than just hearing about it weeks later, but I also understand there would have to be time between that and meeting the heroine so we believe he’s ready for a new relationship.
Of all of the stories in the series thus far, this one was the toughest to get through. I loved Chyna’s focused and determined mindset and the fact that Jared was secure and determined enough to continue to peruse her even when it felt like she was rejecting him over and over. I loved that in the end Jared walked away with the life lesson of sometimes it’s okay to be selfish but I felt that something was missing from bringing the story to a close. While Jared’s story came full circle, I feel that there was a rush ending for Chyna and with that an opportunity for a lesson to be learned on her part. There was a lot going on in this story with a lot of subplots and moving parts. While interesting, I did struggle to finish in a timely manner because it was a bit much. The overall series is great so far but in my opinion this is the weakest book so far.
As a football fan the Saber series has endeared itself to me. Chyna was unrelenting in her way of thinking. Jared was just a big teddy bear. I was a little disappointed in the ending.
Jared had his life planned out. Until it all fell apart. He had been with his girlfriend Sam for 10 years...he had been faithful, he enjoyed taking care of her, and he felt like he would be with her for the rest of his life. However, Sam had other plans she cheated on him with his former teammate and his life plans fell apart. Seven months had gone past after the incident and he was trying to move on and start dating. It led him to Chyna, a choreographer for the football dance team.
Chyna was booked and busy. She was in college finishing up her bachelor's degree, she volunteered at a dance school, choreographed for the Saber dance team, and worked a full time job. She barely had time to take her dog to the dog park. When Jared approached her she just didn't feel like she had any time to pursue anything.
Their chemistry though couldn't be denied. I enjoyed them getting to know each other. Jared's vulnerability and realizing his shortcomings was great to see him evolve.
I wanted just a little more of their story. How did things play out for Jared and did Chyna live her dream.
This was just an ok read. I liked that this story was about football because I am a football fan. I wasn’t crazy about the main characters though. I thought Jared gave in too much to everything that Chyna wanted. While Chyna was so focused on money issues. I just couldn’t see them as a couple in a long=term relationship.
I did like how Chyna’s dog got attached to Jared right away. I thought that was cute. Knowing that Chyna didn’t like Jared spending lots of money on her he did some things that I thought were really things he should have thought more about before he did them.
I did think the story ended too fast. I think the ending should have been a little longer. I would recommend this book to others who like football romances and slow burn romances.
While I truly liked both Jared and Chyna, they had a bit of a problem - they were both in their own head a lot, and they didn't truly listen to the other more often than not. Their chemistry was amazing, and I loved the sweet, hot romance, but that wasn't enough to make me completely fall for their story. I did enjoy the ending, even if it was a little abrupt, and I look forward to the next and final installment in the series. Ms. Rochon is a fantastic writer, and I love how she has a full cast of characters that is multi-faceted and very realistic.
Jared and Chyna so far I like this story the best it made me laugh and it got on my nerve. Jared gets his heartbroken by his girlfriend. Chyna is the new choreographer for the teams cheerleaders. This is my third book in the series that I've read and these men literally have to chase these women down. Nevertheless this book made me laugh there. I just wished once the women was stop running from the men they end up with anyway.
I have read the entire series! The characters and storylines were great. I don't usually read books like this but from the small bio about each book, I found them very interesting and thought I would give them a read! So glad I did. After reading one book, I had to read the next one to find out what is going to happen with the next set of characters. Thank you for such a great read. Now I am about to read The Holmes Brothers series!!!!!
This was an okay read for me and the ended just came out of nowhere. Jared and Chyna were mismatchly cute because he was a nurturer who took care of people and she was to independent used to taking care of herself on her own. In the end they reached a compromise.
Great story filled with love, laughter, confusion and friendship. Chyna and Jared both tried to take care of others they cared about. I was kind of hoping Chyna's mother would get her Mediterranean cruise. The end kind of left it hanging even though it looked like things were going to work out.
I truly enjoyed Jared and Chyna's relationship and dynamic. Their dynamic is something I've seen in my own relationship, so I was able to relate to some of the scenes and scenarios.
Im upset that I received an epilog in the previous book, but not in this one. Again, I wanted something more in the end to wrap up the story officially.
But once again, Farrah wrote a story I really enjoyed.
I love the chemistry between Jared and Chyna. It is so heart warming to see such innocence in her and in him, but mostly her. I love how strong and humble she is and I love how protective and in love he is with her. What a great love story. Awesome Read! ReneeG 👍
Having an understanding that makes all things amazing
Chyna is hard working and independent also she is nothing Jared is used to. The relationship was rocky at first but they each had to understand what they each offered that made them amazing pair.
I’m glad I stumbled upon this series, I have truly enjoyed reading all of the books. Jared was such a sweetheart, but Chyna kind of got on nerves a little. I was happy with the way it ended though.
I liked the premise and the storyline overall, but this book seemed the most sanitized of the whole series. The characters were racially ambiguous when it wasn't necessary.
