Interesting read about the number 1 quarterback rated Roger Staubach (up to 1980) Not only covered his NFL career, but chapters on his coach, fellow players, specific games, Superbowl wins and losses, family, religion, and 4 years in the navy. Got to know Roger as a read person. Even gave earnings of the top quarterbacks including himself at 230,000 per year. Compare that to what players are making today, for what is just entertainment.
Made me look up what the rest of his life was like. He has done well. Someone you can hold up as an example.

Before reading this book I thought I knew quite a bit about Roger Staubach. I knew he served in the navy, I knew he won two super bowls with the cowboys, and I knew he helped the cowboys become “America’s Team”. But I didn’t know much about Roger Staubach the person. To me he always seemed to be something of legend or some sort of mythical being from a by-gone era. A lot of that is due to him playing in the 1970s over 30 years before I was born so I never grew up watching him. After reading this book I learned a lot more about Roger Staubach the man. I learned about his devotion to his christian faith and his relationship with his family. I also learned that he wasn’t too big on the super star stuff and being called "Captain America” by the media. Something we don’t really see with modern athletes who often seek all the glory for themselves like basketball player Lebron James who has “the Chosen One” tattooed on his back. Nor was he easily corrupted by money. He often took pay cuts for his team and he often rejected money if he thought he did a bad job. My favorite quote from him is

“Money is an excellent servant but a lousy master”.

Is Roger Staubach my favorite Cowboy after reading his book? No. But he definitely moved up higher on my list of favorite cowboys right behind Dak Prescott. The reason for Dak being so high is that he has been the only Cowboys quarterback I've ever known ever since I was 8 and he is the reason I became a cowboys fan in the first place. Overall I think that anyone can enjoy reading this book even if they don’t know anything about football or they hate the cowboys for some reason (probably because they're jealous). This book is about Roger Staubach the person and after reading his book he seems like a pretty chill guy and someone to look up to and hang out with. Definitely recommend checking this book out.

Great read if you are or were a Dallas Cowboy fan - especially when Stauback and Landry were there. Lots of specifics on games of key importance during Staubach's time there.

I am fortunate enough to have watched and enjoyed the Cowboys during that time. Classy franchies, and players.
