Daniel is castaway on a rock island in the south pacific.
This is an interesting, fast-paced survival story. During the flashback scenes of his farm life, I thought the characters often behaved oddly, so I didn't care for that part of the book. I did like the flashbacks about the wreck and the combination of luck and skill that enabled him to survive on the island. Penny was my favorite character!
The main character, eighteen year old Daniel, is first found already on a raft after the boat he'd been on had crashed awhile before. He is washed up on a small island and has to fend for himself. And then the story continues how any castaway story does, where he is able to create things to help himself survive. I think anyone who likes reading about survival should check this out.
Sometimes these castaway books make me really sad but I'm not sure if I'm tired of them yet.
It was a great story of how one man can survive stranded. It was written for a much younger audience (like 9-12 year olds) but I found a copy and decided to read it. It was a very quick read and I would highly recommend it. This book would be great to use in a 4-6 grade classroom. It does have portions that discuss death.
Not sure how or when I got this book. It was just there, on the shelf. I recall a near perfect reading experience. But now I can’t find it anywhere. It vanished just as mysteriously as it had arrived.
Found this book at a library sale and thought it looked interesting. Definitely a good classic feel to it, something I definitely would’ve enjoyed when I was younger and made me feel nostalgic of older works.
Castaway was the first book I actually enjoyed reading. Now this could be because of my lack of book experiences or my lack of interest in books. This book was off coarse compared to the movie by a long shot. The main concept of a man getting stranded on a island is the same but all the other details from the movie are non-existent. But this was a great book that had many interactions with the protagonist and knows how to make the reader have feelings for the situation and environment on the island. It has a great story plot and gives a lasting image.
Many men were lost at sea during the sailing vessel era. Most lives were claimed by the ocean, but some may have survived by their wits, like Daniel Ross in Arthur Roth's story The Castaway. Daniel had a few skills and a great will to survive when he landed on a barren rock in the South Pacific. During his years on the island, he managed to provide himself with fresh water, shelter, and food, and he even made a friend or two.
The Castaway is about a man named Daniel and his ship went down in the middle of an Ocean and the only thing that he could do was swim to the nearest island and try to survive. He is the only person on the island and nobody knows where he is or what happen to him and the only thing he needs to do is survive. The island that Daniel gets stuck on is hundreds of miles away from where his ship went down and it is almost impossible for anyone to find him or find where he is. I like this book because I think that is a good suspense book and I like suspense books. The book is very interesting and it is based on a true story, so you can really learn a lot from this book. The outcomes of the book and what happens in the end is a really good story and I think that just about anyone that reads this book would like it. This book is not a super long book but it is a good length and it is very easy to read, and I do not like to read so this book is perfect for me. The book is very interesting and suspenseful from the beginning to the end. And I think that the author did really good writing this book and getting the readers attention and keeping it all the way through the book.
