I enjoy reading historical cookbooks, as I like the connection they can provide to prior generations of women. Cooking for her family might be the only thing a wife in 1911 and a wife in 2011 have in common. This cookbook features recipes and letters published from 1893-1939 in "The Farmers Wife" magazine. The recipes are fun to read but nothing I would likely cook. They reflect the era and are heavy with meat, white flour, gravy, butter, lard - fuel for the crews of men working on the farm. It ...more
