About the author

Arturo Pérez-Reverte Gutiérrez, is a Spanish novelist and ex-journalist. He worked as a war reporter for twenty-one years (1973 - 1994). He started his journalistic career writing for the now-defunct newspaper Pueblo. Then, he jumped to news reporter for TVE, Spanish national channel. As a war journalist he traveled to several countries, covering many conflicts. He put this experience into his book 'Territorio Comanche', focusing on the years of Bosnian massacres. That was in 1994, but his debut as a fiction writer started in 1983, with 'El húsar', a historical novella inspired in the Napoleonic era.

Although his debut was not quite successful, in 1988, with 'The Fencing Master', he put his name as a serious writer of historic novels. That was confirmed in 1996, when was published the first book of his Captain Alatriste saga, which has been his trademark. After this book, he could leave definitely journalism for focusing on his career as a fiction writer. This saga, that happens in the years of the Spanish golden age, has seen, for now, seven volumes, where Pérez-Reverte shows, from his particular point of view, historical events from Spanish history in the 16th century.

Apart from these, he also penned another successful works like Dumas Club and Flanders Panel, titles that, among others, made Pérez-Reverte one of the most famous and bestseller authors of Spanish fiction of our era.

Hace miles de años que quería leer este libro (lleva 14 años en mi estantería) y confieso que lo empecé en enero y me ha durado todos estos meses. Periódicamente iba leyendo algunos de sus artículos, hasta que este mes he decidido que ya era hora de terminarlo.

La verdad es que me encanta cómo escribe Reverte. El título del libro ya lo dice todo, va a ofender, a meter el dedo en la herida, a ensañarse con los susceptibles.

Reconozco que me gusta ese modo de escribir, ese sacarte la rabia que llevas dentro y pensar, no sé sí quiero pegarle una leche o aplaudirle.

Si tengo que escoger alguno de los temas que trata en sus artículos, me quedo con la guerra. Me encanta el modo en que lo enfoca, en sus artículos no hay bandos, no hay "buenos" ni "malos", simplemente hay locura y sinrazón plasmadas en un papel a través de unos ojos que estuvieron allí para verlo, y que lo relatan como sin juzgar. Me gusta mucho porque es muy crudo, en sus artículos sobre la guerra no hay héroes ni vencedores, sólo sinrazón. Y se nota que habla con conocimiento de causa, que estuvo allí, en muchas guerras, durante muchos años.

En general, me gusta su estilo directo y sin retoques, con palabrotas o frases hechas, con lenguaje un poco de la calle, pero bien puesto.

Pero también tengo que sacar una pega, y es que no me gusta que se burle de las iniciativas o los intentos del feminismo por visibilizar a la mujer. Yo misma pienso que eso de decir "asociación de madres y padres de alumnos y alumnas" queda un poco extraño, pero hay que reconocer que el plural de la lengua que utilizamos, en realidad invisibiliza a la mitad (femenina) de la población, y creo que de algún modo es necesario cambiar eso. También es cierto que los artículos son de hace 16 años. Sería interesante leer los que esté escribiendo ahora.

Todo aquel fanático de la obra de Arturo Pérez Reverte tiene que leer esta colección de escritos. Compré este libro en una librería en Chile durante un viaje de placer no porque me interesara leerlo sino por el simple hecho de que era uno de los libros de Reverte que me faltaban de su colección. Luego de un año guardado lo tomo para leerlo porque ya me hacía falta leer algo del autor y de verdad que me arrepiento mil veces de no haberlo leído antes. Es un libro realmente interesantísimo y simpático que no puedes soltar, en el cual encontrarás respuestas a muchas de tus dudas sobre de donde salen los personajes y las historias de sus novelas. Aquí me enteré del orígen del nombre de su gran personaje de Alatriste. En fin, me quedé con tan buen sabor del libro que ya tengo sus otras dos publicaciones: Patente de Corso y No me cogeréis vivo. Altamente recomendado.

Conjunto de artículos que ponen el dedo en la llaga sobre muchas realidades de la España actual. Me gustó por su variedad, su ternura en ocasiones, y el lenguaje descarnado que llega a ser violento y grosero para describir situaciones que el autor rechaza. Olé por el uso de tantas palabrotas; también son una parcela patrimonial de la lengua española. A. Pérez-Reverte lo sabe mejor que nadie, pues es académico de la RAE.

Puede parecer raro leer a día de hoy un libro que recopila artículos publicados entre 1998 y 2001, pero realmente lo fascinante es que el 90% podrían haberse escrito perfectamente ayer.

Recomiendo su lectura, aunque si no te gusta enfadarte mientras lees mejor busca otra cosa. En serio, literalmente he terminado muy mosca cada vez que cerraba el libro. Maldito mundo este.

Автор цитаты – испанский писатель, ставший популярным во всём мире благодаря по-настоящему хорошим романам «Фламандская доска», «Тень орла», «Тайный меридиан», «Кожа для барабана»? циклу о Капитане Алатристе и другим. Но если в романах Перес-Реверте выступает талантливым беллетристом, то в «намерении оскорбить» мы видим – едкого и внимательного публициста. «С намерением оскорбить» – сборник избранных эссе из еженедельной колонки, которую Перес-Реверте ведёт уже десяток лет в испанском еженедельнике «Семаналь». Писатель высказывается на абсолютно любые темы: качество работы испанских авиалиний и танго в Буэнос-Айресе, современные женщины и старое кино, власть и религия, случайное знакомство и неожиданный исторический факт. И говорит предельно честно и искренне. Моментальное фото, где все детали – главные. Как любой южанин, автор эмоционален. Его эссе обжигающи как кофе и разят как удар шпаги. Удивляет наднациональность. В текстах, посвящённых вопросам политики и общества слово «Испания» можно заменить на «Россия», а «Мадрид» на «Москву», «Новосибирск», «Братск» – смысл не меняется. Писатель не боится изобличать: достаётся и папе Римскому и режиссёру Альмодовару, «отцам нации» и международной экономике, чиновникам всех рангов и мастей. Но о чём бы ни писал Перес-Реверте: каждый текст – как маленькое открытие.

Тонкий юмор (иногда сквозь зубы), сарказм, гнев, ирония, цинизм, страсть, мудрость. Проза самой высокой пробы.

Проза человека, для которого слово «родина» – не просто шесть букв.

Проза человека, который видел в этой жизни столько, что хватит на семерых, но всё равно – не теряет надежды…

Кроме того, полагаю, «С намерением оскорбить», должна стать настольной книгой любого журналиста.

Четыреста девяносто шесть страниц убедительного ответа на вопрос – «как надо писать».

И ещё одна цитата, не удержусь: «Поскольку в нашей стране, если эту проклятую богом дыру, конечно, можно считать страной, политические дискуссии давно превратились в портовые драки, отвратительные свалки, и ни одна противоборствующая сторона не вызывает ни малейшей симпатии. Все демонстрируют одинаковую глупость и подлость».

Con ánimo de admirar. Как все-таки здорово, когда есть любимые люди! В какой-то мере, это вполне можно отнести и к любимым авторам, книги которых ты берешь ВСЕГДА предвкушая время, проведенное с удовольствием (и мириадом других наиприятнейших чувств).

Когда абсолютно не хочется экспериментов, когда ты вновь и вновь получаешь подтверждение, что давняя истина о том, что старый друг лучше новых двух, может быть и банальна, но отнюдь не неправа, тогда ты протягиваешь руку и снимаешь с полки томик со знакомыми инициалами на корешке, и погружаешься в свой маленький персональный рай, уютный мирок, который дожди или снега внешнего мира не смогут поколебать, пока вы вместе, пока длятся строчки из черных буковок на белом безмолвии бумаги, пока длится КНИГА. Книга твоего любимого автора. Одно из таких доступных, но безумно мощных наслаждений.
Спасибо, Артуро! Ты еще никогда не подводил меня, перефразируя Высоцкого "когда я спотыкаюсь на стихах, когда ни до размеров, ни до рифм" я беру какую-нибудь твою книгу и знаю точно, что "всем делам моим на суше вопреки и назло моим заботам на земле" ты возьмешь меня в море (/захватывающую историю/приключение/войну), из которой я вернусь, может быть, немножко лучше, чем была до.

Сборник эссе "С намерением оскорбить" -великолепен! Я замирала от восторга, восхищалась, соглашалась (что чаще) и спорила (да-да, я не во всем согласна с тобой, Артуро. Но взгляды на войну не бывают объективными ни у кого и никогда - невозможно остаться на линии разделяющей две воюющие стороны, самоубийственно стоять под перекрестным огнем, и мы всегда выбираем свой окоп, а на другой глядим в перекрестье хоть винтовки, хоть фотокамеры. Поэтому, оставим наши разные мнения о войне в Югославии и Чечне. ��ли поспорим. Вспомни плюшевого медвежонка, а потом свое *Виновна Сербия*. Что истина?..).

Наверное, статьи Переса-Реверте - остроумные, неполиткорректные, саркастические, обо всем на свете, немного пафосные местами, безумно актуальные и заставляющие думать - лучшие статьи не только на испанском языке, но и вообще на данный момент из подобных себе. Ах, да - я не объективна. Но, тем не менее, это факт!

I try not to read reviews or descriptions of books right before I read them because I like not knowing much about the book. It kinda backfired on me this time. My husband’s niece died July 22. We were devastated. It wasn’t violent but when one of the opening pages was two violently dead bodies and then a scene in funeral I was a little taken aback. I don’t mind violence at all. I was just a little shocked because I’m feeling sensitive and sore from the niece dieing and I had forgotten what this graphic novel was about.

Art’s pretty good, a 4 star. . But I noticed almost all characters faces are squished. Kinda odd. Some funny lines but creepy. But I want to live in the house, I so want that house (ok, maybe not with the magic doors, but still)... One relatively minor complaint, I can barely tell where the chapters or issues stop and start. The dark text for marking a chapter is hard to see. Annoying since I like to read the novels in pieces on my lunch breaks at work.

The time jumps, going from before the murders to after the murders keeps confusing me. I understand it’s probably necessary but It keeps mixing me up. However it gets better toward the ending chapters. I was mostly confused at the beginning and things cleared up toward the end. And the pace picked up so now I want to read more of it. Story is a 4 stars too.

Pérez Reverte en sus años postmozos. Pérez Reverte soñador ("Su sueño es jubilarse para irse a pescar cuando le salga"), Pérez Reverte pitbull ("Recordarás, querida chocholoco, mis desinteresados consejos de la semana pasada para triunfar como modelo de cercanías"), Pérez Reverte al fin y al cabo. ¿Les he dicho que me encanta Pérez Reverte? Aun sin estar de acuerdo con él en todo (faltaría más), me encanta cómo defiende sus ideas, cuando las defiende. Otras veces se la cuelan, como cuando el otro día salió en Twitter repitiendo lo de los 450.000 políticos. Pero es humano, estimados lectores. Reverte es humano y un escritor fantástico, sobre todo de artículos y novelas de guerra.
