Raffi’s take on this traditional favorite is perfectly matched with Stacey Schuett’s adorable illustrations. A school play is the setting for Raffi’s latest Song to Read, and it’s filled with lovable kids of all ages pulling together to put on a show, all the while encouraging the shy star to let her own light shine in the grand finale. Kids will love to read and sing along with one of their favorite songs, and parents will appreciate the story’s message that celebrates the importance of both individuality and community.
This little light of mine is such a classic children's song, and book! It holds such a deep meaning, of never letting anyone blow your inner light out, and never being afraid of being who you are. The colors are mostly water color, as most of Raffi's books are. The bright colors enhance the pages, and the song really allows children to get into the book. The repetitive nature of the book helps with this as well! Overall, a great song with a great meaning.
I LOVED this book. I chose this book because I used to sing this song all time when I was little. Now that I'm a teacher at my church I get to sing these songs to my kids and they get to have a fun time singing it and it always brings back memories. When I was reading it I just started to sing it in my head while I was reading it.
I mean... It's the song this "little light of mine" and it's supposed to be the author's version but like... It's not really that different. Also the illustrations are objectively cool and display clear skill (which is why i gave this a 2 and not a 1) but the story ark of the images are like VERY confusing. What kinda play is it? Who knows because they grabbed every single box with every theme under the sun. Idk I think it could have been more clever there.
