This was a fantastic biography. First, the subject, John Rechy, is a unique personality whose admittedly narcisistic ambitions as both a gay hustler and a talented writer provide excellent material for a bio. Second, the biographer is passionate about his subject and has written a readable and compelling story. I've read City of Night, Rechy's masterpiece, and Rechy's own memoir, About My Life and the Kept Woman, and this added a whole new layer to my understanding and appreciation of the man. C ...more
