The Sun, the Wind and the Rain
Named an Outstanding Science Trade Book by the National Science Teachers Association, The Sun, the Wind and the Rain from award-winning author Lisa Westberg Peters and illustrator Ted Rand is a children's picture book about the changing facets of nature over time.
With a plastic bucket and shovel, Elizabeth uses beach sand to build a mountain. Off in the distance, yet large enough to see, is a magnificent mountain range forged of rock and sediment. As breezes and the sea spill the granules from Elizabeth's mountain, so too does the wind and rain shear pebbles and dirt from the majestic peak that rises above the land.
This is the story of two mountains and how nature and time changes them.

This is another great science text where a scientific concept in the natural world is paralleled with a child's activities. In this, a girl builds a mountain out of sand on the beach while a real mountain experiences all the parts of its geologic cycle. Like her text, Water's Way, this is just the right level of information peppered into a relatable narrative for its audience. Nicely done.

This book would be wonderful to read to children for them to gain better knowledge of mountains. It gives the opportunity to children to create their own mountain out of sand. There is a lot of insight that can be learned through this book.

The author writes a side-by-side book about how a mountain forms, and how a little girl forms her own mountain.

What does one get if the sun, the wind, and the rain come together? Mountain, ocean, erosion, and earth formations. Readers will meet Elizabeth, who will imitate nature and built mountains with sand at the beach. Great resource for teaching compare and contrast. I found this book to be useful when teaching about erosion.

Perfect story describing how a mountain is made for children as it follows a girl on the beach making her own!! Great for a teacher to read to students when discussing landforms :)

This book is appropriate for grades K-4. It provides support for the teaching of landforms and how they are formed.

Good correlation of mountains formation and a sand mountain. Does explain mountains in terms of millions of years.
