On a trip to the pool with her mother, Maria notices the various signs that help them, including one that lists the pool hours, two that state safety rules, and several that show the depth of the water.
I read this book with my daughter (age 2.5) just before we went to the pool for the first time. Since our neighborhood pool displays many of the signs shown in the book, reading this ahead of time really helped her become familiar with a new environment. Knowing to look for a "No Running" sign was especially helpful, as she is prone to running away and she definitely can't do that near water. I know these books are intended for beginning readers, but they have been great about introducing basis nonfiction concepts to a much younger child as well.
