Praise for the UK edition: "It is simplicity itself, whether you plan on stepping into a dinghy or aboard a yacht." -- Sailing
Learning to Sail is the ideal guide for new sailors. It is also valuable as a backup to sailing courses and useful as a refresher course on the basics. Lively color photographs and clear diagrams highlight expert instruction on topics that range from the various parts of a boat to advanced knots, reading charts and navigation.
This straightforward and comprehensive guide covers:
How to get started What things are called How a boat sails Sailing a dinghy Yachts -- getting to know the ropes Crewing a yacht The tide The weather How to navigate Some useful knots A comprehensive glossary. Learning to Sail is suitable for all ages and learning environments. It is designed specifically to give novice sailors the information and guidance they need to set sail safely and with confidence.
A one-hour read, I enjoyed reinforcing my new learning about sailing. Someday I'll actually start to remember (and be able to USE while sailing I hope!) all those nautical terms. This one was written by a Canadian and I found some terms were not what I'd learned in my other books and instructions. Oh well, keeps us flexible, right?
