I only made it through half of this book as I had to discontinue taking sign language class. I am no authority on sign language textbooks so this could be a very good one. As a student though, I found many of the pictures very confusing. Perhaps this is the case with all ASL textbooks. I have only this one and know that I had to look up many, many words on the internet to get the signing correct.

I highly recommend the website Lifeprint for learning sign language at home.

This is the best sign language I have used yet. It gives many examples and exercises. Plus, it explains grammar and culture along the way. It really is a proper learning a LANGUAGE book and not just learning signs.
