Since my transcripts are Canadian by nature, I had to test out of a US Constitution credit for my teaching credential. It is a fascinating document. How on Earth did such level headed and inclusive people (for it is such the authors seem to be), completely disregard women and African Americans?

A succinct primer on the US Constitution. It’s fairly repetitive in its introduction, checks for understanding, summary, verbatim original text and then FAQs. It aims to simplify and clarify the Constitution & overall, does a good job. There was some instances where wording and explanation remained confusing. The inclusion of laymen terminology in parentheses next to legal jargon was mostly helpful, but sometimes distracting. I recommend this to anyone looking for a review or an introduction to the US Constitution. Honestly, I felt as if the Preamble and Bill of Rights were the only portions overviewed in school. Personal investigation introduced a handful of other amendments, so it was welcome to see the origin of the US’s supreme law.

I don't think I had ever read the US Constitution in total in one sitting, so I picked up this little paperback in order to understand the overall picture of the entire bedrock of our country. It truly makes good reading as the founding fathers struggled to ensure that all aspects of government and law were covered in one document. And they did a pretty good job of it. The constitutional amendments are interesting, as they fill in the holes that were not included or well defined in the original document or made new laws some of which (prohibition, for example) were not successful and were repealed.

The author has also included a question and answer section as well as quizzes for the reader. I would recommend that anyone interested in US history should read this amazing document, parts of which are still being contested in the Supreme Court.
