In a terrifying future world, four girls must depend on each other if they want to survive.
Maddie is ready for action. Louisa, Evelyn, and Rosie helped rescue her from the Alliance's grasp, and she's learned an enormous, game-changing secret: her mother is the leader of the Resistance!
But reuniting with her long-absent mother is not going to be easy. As Maddie and her friends set out to find the Resistance headquarters, they are relentlessly pursued by the Alliance. Worst of all, members of their group have gone missing in the middle of rubble-strewn Chicago.
Maddie and her friends have earned their battle scars, courage, and strength. But at this darkest hour, will they be able to make it back to their families . . . and freedom?
Eva Gray lives in Chicago and enjoys reading, cooking, and camping. Though she doesn't expect to need them in the near future, Eva keeps lots of extra batteries for her flashlight and a stock of canned food in her pantry.

Set Me Free is the fourth and final book in the Tomorrow Girls series, and begins right where book three, With the Enemy, ended. This series is about four young girls, Louisa, Evelyn, Maddie, and Rosie, who were sent to a boarding school to keep them safe during a war between the United States and the Alliance, which happened after natural disasters destroyed part of the United States. However the girls soon learned that the school was secretly run by the Alliance and successfully escaped, joining up with three boys from the nearby boys' school. After traveling many miles and enduring many difficulties, including rescuing Maddie after she was kidnapped by Alliance agents and taken away to be brainwashed, the kids have finally made it back to their home city of Chicago.
Each book has been narrated by a different girl, and so for the last book, the narrator is Maddie. Maddie is probably the character who changed the most from the start of the series. At the beginning, she was rather timid and not as strong as the other girls. However, she has become stronger and braver, especially after learning that her absent mother, who she thought had a support job in the army, is actually the leader of the Resistance, which is the military organization that fights to defeat the Alliance. Now, Maddie and her friends must find her mother and the Resistance to give them an important encoded message, but finding them in war-torn Chicago won't be easy.
Set Me Free is, overall, a pretty good conclusion to the Tomorrow Girls series, it doesn't end with a cliffhanger and the storylines for all the main characters are resolved. I was disappointed by a couple of things, however - we never find out what happened to some of the minor characters, nor is the exact reason for the war ever explained, in fact it's never explained what exactly the Alliance is or where they came from. This series is a good choice for introducing younger readers to the dystopian genre, and for older readers looking for a quick read. I just wish there had been a bit more background information, because I'm still left wondering why there was even a war in the first place.
According to Barnes & Noble, the age for this book is 10-14 years. It might actually be a couple of years below that. This book is extremely easy to read.
There are 4 books in the series and each is told from a different character's point of view. That doesn't bother me but the seeming change in personality of the characters from book to book does. I understand that each book is a completely different perspective, but it comes across as implausible when a very rough character in one book becomes so nice, reassuring and vulnerable in such a short period of time.
Things come about way too easily. For example, when one character is thinking he or she should do something, another character says or does it as if she was reading the first character's mind. That actually happens a lot in this series of books.
The kids seem to get out of difficult situations very easily. A lot seems to fall into place almost everywhere they go. The cavalry always comes in. Someone blacks out and when she wakes up, everything is solved. Situations like that are also common throughout the series.
The premise of the book is very interesting but the execution is a bit lacking and quite unbelievable. For an 8-10 year old, it may be on the spot. For that age it may be exciting, but for an adult, it is unreasonable. The only reason I finished is because I wanted to see how it ended. The only reason I gave the series 3 stars is because it may be a good read for children.
This was a satisfying conclusion to the Tomorrow Girls series. All of the loose ends are tied up. Each book in the series is narrated by one of the four main characters. The different persepectives keep the story line moving and allows the readers to view the events from different perspectives. While it is an adventure and survivial story there is just enough romance involved to turn off some male readers. I will recommend the series to my students.
A great adventure, mystery book! It is the last book in the tomorrow girl series. Perfect for middle readers because it deals with friendships and new relationships without worrying that it will become too mature for MS as some young adult books do. I think this is a great introduction to dystopian novels for kids who are not ready for the length of a book like Hunger Games.
When I first read this series, I was in third grade and already an avid reader; however, I hadn't explored much outside of standalone novels. Tomorrow Girls, alongside the Shadow Children series by Margaret Peterson Haddix, changed that. I'd say that those two series catapulted my love of reading to new levels, and I became more adventurous with the content I consumed.
I currently work at a library in a tiny town, which means I sometimes end up with a lot of free time. I decided to use that time to revisit this beloved childhood series of mine, and overall, I'd say that it was pleasant.
My issues with it are small, considering it's aimed at children and not 22-year-olds like myself, but they still bothered me. Things were solved very conveniently at times, especially in this last installment, and I honestly think that there could've been another book exploring the future lives and dynamics of the characters-including those we don't get any closure for.
I had fun with it, though, and the second book in particular was surprisingly good. Maybe I'll revisit the Shadow Children series next. Can't beat nostalgia!

A couple of weeks ago, I read the book series "Tomorrow Girls" in English without using a dictionary. It has a 4-book series and 4 different main character speak in the each different book. So, when I started reading the second one, I really got confused because in the second one, the main character was different from the first book.
The book series was so interesting that I couldn't put down my Kindle, and I finished reading all of them for 2 weeks. The story belongs to the near future novel and 13 year-old teenaged 4 girls save the world. While surviving the world, they try to save the world and you can enjoy reading their growing processes. You can feel as if you are with them. There are full of thrill.
Although each book was fun, my favorite one is the first book and I like the main character of the book. The book series help me improving my reading speed a lot. The books series became the best books ever for me in this year!
The book I have been reading this month is called Set Me Free ( Tomorrow Girls, #4 ). The book author is Eva Gray. I liked this book because it's very interesting and it just keeps going, there's never a time where you will set this book down and not pick it back it up, it's also very catchy. The main setting is in the middle of the war between Alliance and Resistance. The main characters are Maddie, Louisa, Evelyn, and Rosie. The main conflict is that Louisa, Evelyn, Rosie helped rescue Maddie from the Alliance's grasp, and Maddie finds out that her mother is the leader of the Resistance Headquarters, they've all been trying to find the Resistance Headquarters but are pursued by the Alliance, people from their group end up missing in the middle of Chicago. and they struggle to get back safety to their families. I would recommend this book to 12-14 year old girls who like action and likes surprising books.

i would recommend this novel / series to another student because it's really good and interesting. what i liked about the authors craft was how she kept the story going how she made me enjoy the book with funny parts but kept the story on the same topic. one important lesson i learned from this book and how Eva Gray writes is to trust your heart and don't let people scare you. something that was intresting about this story is why they had to take maddy why not any of the other kids that were there. what made me choose this book was my cousin read it and told me i should read the whole series. my thoughts or feelings of this story is glad that all the kids got home and i liked how the ending ended.

I loved the final book to the series! This book is descriptive and interesting. The plot and setting of this book is perfectly imaginable and is also very detailed. I hope the author thinks about writing another book because I will definitely read it. The best part of the book would be ending for me! I love what happens throughout the series and how each book leaves you wanting to read the next. I definitely recommend this book for any teenage girl or any tween girl who loves action, mystery, and description.
I enjoyed this entire series. I will be recommending them for my reluctant 7th grade students. I think it is great that the characters are age appropriate. I love the 4 different strong female main characters. I love the references to other classic works. Far fetched? Who knows. A fun read? Absolutely! A series that didn't drag in forever is another plus!
A 6th grade student got me reading this series when she wrote about it in her reading journal in the library. The fun thing about the four books is that each book is voiced by a different main character so that you really get to know them and their perspective as they make their way through an America that is at war .
Not bad at all! I enjoyed the themes of friendship and teamwork throughout the books, and this was definitely a good conclusion! I liked the different personalities that were portrayed through each of the girls and even the little cute romance that occasionally showed up! I think my female students will definitely enjoy it!
Hanging out in a baseball stadium, very cool. I liked the old technology references, and Dizzy Dean too. I liked how Maddie's personality changed--she'd been really resistant, almost stubbornly non-participatory in this adventure, but then we could see how she changed after being captured and taken to the Phoenix School. The gang thing was a little confusing; why weren't the gangs in school? I don't think I understood that. Also it felt a little weird that there was only an ironing board's width between two buildings with a street below? Although that was still a fun little adventure.
Another thing I didn't quite understand--why go through all the trouble *just* to take Maddie to the Phoenix School? Why wouldn't they all have been taken there? At the end of the third book. I would also love to know what happened to Helen and her brother. My favorite part though, was the reveal that Drew was the son of the president, that was great.
Anyway, I enjoyed the series, because I'm a sucker for a dystopia, and this one didn't disappoint.
Our intrepid teens are back together, no wait now they aren't!
Each of these books primarily focuses on the story of one of the girls. This outing it is Maddie who has recently learned that her MOTHER is the leader of the resistance.
This series wraps with this book and wrapped it is. Most of our questions are answered. We know the good guys will prevail. The plotting and development of this series is okay, but it is glaringly obvious throughout. Still, I did persevere through the whole series so it isn't unbearable!
it was a very eventful book to me. it was a great conclusion to the tomorrow girls series, i love how every book comes from a different character's perspective. This one was especially my favorite out of the series because it gave me the chance to really open my imagination to all the events and places that take place in the story. I really recommend it to people that want to find a book to read.
This series is a great beginner dystopian series for middle schoolers. There is some romance but it focuses mainly on female friendship. The series has an open ended ending but the main plot was resolved. I would have liked a short epiloge with the girls all grown up, hanging out, what they do for a living and if the war is still happening. Overall a great dystopian series
Still echoed TWTWB. Right down to hiding in a truck. These kids infiltrated the bad guys academy on purpose, while in TWTWB it was by accident. As an introduction to kids in a war though, it's doable. These kids didn't learn from their mistakes though, which may or may not be due to their age. Elly and friends learnt and kept learning.
