Fantastic book about the Big Dipper and star constellations. I was fooled because the library book I received looked old and therefore out of date. It isn’t. In fact I’d say this book might be better than more recent books. It talks about the history of the Big Dipper and Polaris and how different cultures were used over the years. That the North Star wasn’t always in the same position and will change in the future is pretty interesting and the information in the book is new to me and absorbing. I had no idea that the staff that is often held in Egyptian priests hands mirrors the dipper and is intended to help the dead find their way int the underworld. Great facts. Love this book.

I read this book with my 2nd grader and it is a FABULOUS pick for the topic. I can see us reading it a bunch of times and him picking up trivia he might not find anywhere else. The illustrations are gorgeous AND the whole thing is black and white. Random used books that turn into treasure are my FAVORITE!
