I feel like this book was just poorly executed. The overall story was ok and the progression of their abusive relationship was realistic, but there were a lot of things that didn't really fit well. I think the initial relationship seemed ridiculous, they went on a few dates and then suddenly were in love despite him being flakey and all over the place and being really sketchy about his work. I felt so frustrated with Lily... She didn't come across as the completely dependent personality that she tried to explain herself as by the end. I'm glad there are books like this out there and it's always a topic that could use more awareness, I just think it could have been executed better. Probably won't read the sequel unless I get it for free.

Enjoyable.
The overall story was good enough to keep me reading. The main character Lily, was a bit of a washout and a disappointment at times, and her friends left her in the lurch as well. It is an easy read and it was a free book.

I don't believe I have ever read a book as awful as this one! This book is proof that too often we get what we pay for. Yes, the plot of an abusive husband involved in illicit activity has been overdone, BUT the right author can transform a simple, reused plot into an enjoyable read. Not Christine Kersey! I think it is a literary crime that this writer is allowed to publish her work and subject other people to it! And why oh why was this author's work likened to that of the incomparable Mary Higgins Clark!!!!!
Here are some of the problems with the book.
The main character, Lilly, starts out being a determined young lady bent on maintaining her independence and achieving a good education. Then she meets Trevor, a character who at the onset is little more then a dull stereotype. She literally bumps into him and falls in love with him (very realistic?). A week later he is crazy about her too and within the span of a few weeks he pressures her to get married and she DOES IT! Only in Walt Disney movies do two characters race so quickly to the alter. She knows very little about this man and the little she does know is highly suspicious. Then we are expected to feel sorry for her when her marriage inevitably goes bad.
It takes 300 pages for the author to write what could have been condensed to 100 pages especially since the novel has no ending, which works because it has no character development. Other characters include Nicole and Michelle. All we know about these young ladies are their names. Then there is Alyssa, the prophetic and relentlessly judgmental best friend of Lilly (a friendship that is never developed). Alyssa is determined to dislike Trevor even though initially she has no reason to. She is also a saint who drops everything to help the main character. Lastly for some inexplicable reason, Alyssa knows the thoughts and heart of her friend Justin, and tries to force Lilly to be with him. Justin's character is (surprise) never developed. I have no idea why he is even included in the book except for to provide fodder for Trevor's abuse. We are told that Justin is a nice guy but his selfish behavior contradicts that. For example, even though Justin senses that there is tension in Lilly's marriage he still tries to force his friendship on her, knowing that it could jeopardize her marriage and well being. Then just as suddenly as they are introduced, Justin and Alyssa disappear from the novel.
Next there is Bronson who is more of a caricature than a character. His best friend ask him to do a very delicate and crucial favor, but Bronson is sidetracked by the offer of a free meal. And this is the climax of the book!!!!!!! The least developed character is alluded to throughout the book but we are not introduced to her until almost the last chapter. She meets Lilly in a public restroom just to tell her (surprise) that Trevor is mean. I couldn't believe it! The more I read the more I was convinced that the author had no real objective when she wrote this book. She just added details as she went along and hoped it worked. The most crucial point of the book, Lilly's attraction to Trevor and her determination to marry him is never explained. We are just supposed to accept that after a few passionate kisses she should be with him forever. Even a novice writer could have included a special striking characteristic about Trevor, aside from his nondescript good looks, that would have drawn Lilly to him. Perhaps even a mention that Trevor reminded Lilly of her deceased father would have made the reading audience understand her preoccupation with him. But we get nothing!
I am an avid fiction reader and I know that sometimes you have to suspend your disbelief in order to enjoy a novel, but this writer never succeeds in persuading the audience to go along with her poor plot devices. There is so much absurdity in these 300 pages that you read the book longing for it to get better. There is nothing good about this book! It is poorly written, there are glaring grammatical issues, the same word is used twice in many of the sentences (e.g. "Trevor went to work so he could work"), there is no character or plot development!!! A high school student taking an intro creative writing course could have produced better material that included basic plot structure and a reasonable ending. If you possess any love of good fiction or even any desire to retain your present IQ do not read this book.

Story of a young woman who is all alone in the world trying to survive her first year of college and her new romance. Story was OK. Writing was not very interesting. Characters were rather flat and boring. Sorry, probably won't read this author again.

Full of spelling and grammar errors which is off-putting to start with but it seemed very far-fetched. Another Kindle freebie and my experience hasn't been tremendous with them so far........

This is a review for the entire series
The story was great. A fantastic idea.
The writing style? Not so much.
The author introduced so many guys in this book, it was a little back & forth for me.
1. Justin
2. Trevor
3. Marcus
4. Cameron.
Frankly, I was Team Justin in the Justin vs. Trevor, and Cameron in the Marcus vs. Cameron. Guess which one's she picked each time? Trevor & Marcus.
The Writing Style
Awful. She was way to descriptive & not enough dialogue. She went through everything step by step. "I walked into Natalie's room, and gazed into the crib & thought about how I almost lost her. Tears filled my eyes (this is months later, btw) and I pushed the emotion away as I reach in to pick her up. I bounced her on my hip & walked us downstairs to feed her."
1. She thinks about how she almost lost her at the most inopportune times. All the time. It's months later.
2. Just mentioning that you woke her up & fed her would be fine. It's this step by step all the time. "I walked to the door & looked in the peephole and was delighted to see it was Marcus. Then I remembered I couldn't have him. I pushed away the emotion & opened the door, smiling brightly."
How about: I went to go see who was at the door & felt conflicting emotions when I saw it was Marcus."
This book was just...too much. She thought about the same things over and over. There's also parts where the author builds up suspense where you think something's going to happen........nothing.
I also didn't like how Mary was pushed out of the story. She used to come over all the time, got people to donate furniture, and then I didn't hear from her until she told Lily she couldn't live there anymore. Trish kind of took her place, but I didn't like her. Not at all.
**I know this review is kind of spontaneous & just a lot of random complaints, but this isn't all, and I know they're random. I was more collecting my thoughts on the book than reviewing it.

This is the first book I've read by Christine Kersey. I found it offered at a low price and decided to give it a try. While it's not the best suspense/thriller novel I've read it was a pleasant diversion.
He Love Me Not is about Lily, a twenty year old woman who has spent most of her life caring for her father. After his death she finally has the time and money to attend college. She is naive and that gets her in trouble almost from the very first page. Lily meets and falls in love with the handsome Trevor and her troubles soon begin.
She is swept off her feet, ignoring warnings that he is not the man she thinks he is. And like most young women is willing to overlook obvious faults because she is so in love and he is really good at wooing her back. They have a whirlwind romance and get married.
Lily soon discovers just how terrifying Trevor can be and finds herself in an abusive relationship. Trying to escape is almost impossible since he has already absconded with most of her savings and is watching her like a hawk.
This really would be a good young adult novel as it deals with issues many young women today are faced with. Also, there is no sex or bad language for parents to be concerned with. Lilly, while naive, has a very high morals and would be a good example for young women today.
I'm getting ready to read her second novel in this series called "Don't Look Back".

I don't even know where to begin.
Well to be honest I really didn't enjoy the beginning. As the characters were developing, all I wanted to do was smack each person. Lily was so naive and just plain stupid. I was so annoyed by her character. By the end of the book she finally got a backbone and I was cheering for her.
Trevor... I don't know what to do except wow. His character was definitely something I don't think anyone expected but definitely made it an interesting book.

Honestly, I felt mad the whole time reading this book because Lily is so naive! And how random is the ending? Like not talking to your best friend about what happened. Just leaving everything behind? Sure everyone says they like to leave everything behind but its just not realistic. This book could use a lot more detail also. But in the end, to spite the face that I was disappointed that she didn't get to kick his ass, it was a pretty descent read.

This book is TERRIBLE! Do not read you will be disappointed! There is no depth to the characters or the plot and don't even get me started on the ending! There is a sequel to this boom and after wasting my time on this one oil have no desire to read it or anything else by this author!

I really wish I could simpathize with Lily, but I really can't. I mean I am sorry for all that happened to her but it was all because of how naive and desperate she was. I know thta it is easy to judge someones situation from the outside, but in this case I think that what was going to happen was really obvious.

I loved this book. I love how Lily's life starts out bad, becomes good, gets a little bit worse, becomes so terrible, and then gets so much better again! It's like reality, not like in a book that is perfect the whole story. Nothing will stay perfect forever, and this book just proves that over and over.
At first, when Lily started getting the notes, I thought it was either Justin or Alyssa sending them only because they were the only other people besides Trevor that Lily knew. Then later on, I really started to think Alyssa was the one sending them because she always acted funny around Lily. When I figured out that it wasn't anybody I thought it was, I was like whoa... It was kind of creepy but it was good to know that somebody was trying to get Lily to walk away because the note sender feared for Lily's life. At least somebody cared about Lily.
When Trevor started to become abusive towards Lily, I started to hate him so much. She never knew he was like that, or otherwise she wouldn't have married him. Before that, when Lily was accused of being an alcohol addict, that made me mad. I was like, "Why would Trevor's mom accuse her of something like that!" but then I was like, "Its all good." when Trevor fixed the problem. Maybe. From how he sounded in that conversation I wasn't so sure that he really fixed it. I think he just told Marcy to not tell anyone else that lie. Just the fact that he would say something like that about his own wife that was against alcohol from the beginning made me feel so much hate towards Trevor. He was such a bad character, but there was nothing Lily could do to make him stop being so mean of a person.
When Lily got pregnant, I didn't really want that to happen. It just gave her another reason to stay with Trevor, even though she really didn't want to. I thought Trevor would try to get Lily to terminate the pregnancy, but when he acted like he was supportive of it, I was kind of happy.
When Trevor got put in jail and when Lily had to get the crap ton of money that he stole from her, I knew she was going to run away. To where, I knew it was going to be far away. I just hoped she went further away from Trevor and Bronson than she did though. I'm glad she dyed her hair and cut it, because that makes her harder to find from where she ran away from.
This book was so good! I usually don't read books filled with suspense and a lot of drama, but this book was amazing! I can't wait to read the next one!

Well, this book was a disappointment. The writing was basic and I had only continued to read in hopes that I'd like the story. However, that was not the case. I did finish the book only to find that it is a cliffhanger ending. I end up hating Lily, the main character, and wondering how with such a great group of friends does she end up in the hell of the relationship she is in. Trevor seems shady all through the book. His family is the only thing that redeems him midway through. However, he quickly changes that opinion. Not sure if I'll read the next book, but if I do it will only be because I am hoping Lily goes back to the person she was at the beginning of the book.

I think it was pretty good some stuff I didn't like.There was suspense in their like how was lily suppose to get away from Trevor. What is Trevor doing, is he stealing cars what is he doing.And there was suspense , that is how they capture the readers attention.And when she got away from him how was she going to start a new life with her child. Her mother and father are dead, and lily moved to a different town/city without her best friends. The details of the book was good, there was cause and affect, there suspencse, and it really capture my attention maybe that's why I want to read the rest of the series maybe:)

Okay, so this was so real is was scary. Poor girl just lost her dad and manages to fall in love with a horrible guy! It's always amazing to me (in real life) when great girls marry losers! It didn't matter that someone was trying to warn her, she didn't believe it. This is very realistic, so hopefully those that read pass it on to others to really help people figure out how careful they have to be about who they date and marry! It's just scary! I'm starting the next book right away, in the hopes that things turn out better for her!

Another book that is part one of something. I keep doing this to myself! I did enjoy it, although it hasn't wrapped up yet. The ending just kind of creeped up out of nowhere, but luckily you get to read the next few chapters in the next book so as to give you some direction. I've started the next book, and the description has me excited. It sounds like it might be a little similar to the movie Enough, but hey, I didn't hate the movie. So, here's to reading part 2!

The writing wasn't amazing or anything but the story was pretty good. ALthough the entire time I was reading this book I felt uneasy about Trevor and I kept wanting to scream at Lily and kept wondering which read flag she was missing, because it seemed that everything was a read flag.

Very realistic. I had all kinds of emotions as I was reading this book. I wanted to shake some sense into Lily but crazy Trevor was smooth at first, so she was understandably naive. Every young girl should read this story and learn to watch out for this.

DNF. In fact, barely even started. It might have been the fact that it was so different from the book I read just before it but I think it was more the writing. It was all telling and very little showing. The premise was interesting but the execution was lacking.

A four part series based around familyless 20 year old college freshman Lily and the hardships she faces. Emotional and drama packed, this is a well balanced novel of lies,heartbreak, hope, friendship and a testament to inner strength.

Lily begins her new life in California including a dog, job, and a new love interest in ex-Marine Marcus only to found by Trevor. This is a complex and ever changing novel of deceit, fear, learning to be strong and protect oneself, and of blossoming love. Contains violence but the ending is happy.

Focused on Alyssa's broken marriage and Ty's gambling, the stress of Marcus losing his job,starting a new business with Lily's remaining money, and them moving in with his parents. Conflict, loss, stress, and health concerns test Lily and Marcus's marriage but the story ends happily.

Lily begins her new life in California including a dog, job, and a new love interest in ex-Marine Marcus only to found by Trevor. This is a complex and ever changing novel of deceit, fear, learning to be strong and protect oneself, and of blossoming love. Contains violence but the ending is happy.

After no contact since the wedding a year and a half ago, Trevor's family requests to see baby Natalie, a ship board romance, pressure from Trevor's family to move to Las Vegas, Lily's love for Marcus and Trish's belief that Lily is unsuitable create an emotionally conflicted story with romance, daily detailed descriptions and an epilogue including happy ending for all the characters.

Focused on Alyssa's broken marriage and Ty's gambling, the stress of Marcus losing his job,starting a new business with Lily's remaining money, and them moving in with his parents. Conflict, loss, stress, and health concerns test Lily and Marcus's marriage but the story ends happily.

I had a difficult time rating this book. The author was very brave to tackle this subject. At first I was so disgusted with Lily and how naive she was and plain stupid to overlook some pretty glaring warning signs. Then I realized that people do actually find themselves in similar situations. It is too easy to overlook warning signs when you are “In Love” or lonely.
I also remembered that Lily is young and had been taking care of her father for some time, she was somewhat isolated. During this book, she didn’t have family protecting her and longed for “family”. Her friends tried to warn her, but she was not listening to them.
I struggled with how she shut out her friends. She was too focused on being independent and making decisions for herself. She also had only honest love in her life as an example and could not fathom anyone who would treat her differently. She then second guessed herself to the point that she allows herself to become trapped and then imprisoned.
A very sad story, but unfortunately not that uncommon, maybe not to the extent that this story goes, but with some similarities. I hope this story will help someone who is in a relationship that is destructive see it for what it is and be able to make a change.
