Namun, dongeng-dong

Be comforted, dear little sister, and sleep in peace, God will not forsake us.

Who doesn't know the story of young Hansel and Gretel, abandoned in the woods, and stumbling across a witch? A piece of media that has been retold in so many ways, the original story has been twisted beyond recognition. However, the original tale itself, twisted and shocking, is definitely not for

I was someone who grew up on the faerie tales of the Brothers Grimm, in their child friendly forms, so when I got a chance to read the original of Hansel and Gretel, I immediately jumped at th

This classic short story has exerted a tremendous influence on me. First of all, it is one of the first books I received from my mother when I was a child. Talking about this book is like evoking memories of the precious moments spared with the person I deeply miss: my loving mother. Regarding the plot, I have found it so touching that whenever I remember it, a sense of sorrow wells up inside me- the same feeling I experienced when I first read it. The world explored in this story is that of chi ...more

I think this is a must for children as it has been passed down from generation to generation. It is a classic fairytale that captures the children's imagination through fantasy, wonderment and adventure. The main characters in the story are of course brother and sister Hansel and Grethal. From starting off living with their innocent, vulnerable stepfather and the "wicked stepmother" the story develops as the children embark on a journey filled with suspense and fantasy. Talking duck's, the house ...more

Oh this is a horror story children style. None the less I loved it, if I had even been inclined to wander the forests by myself and take sweets from strangers this turned me off the idea.

Let's just say the Grimms took their cautionary tales rather seriously. My heart broke for the siblings when they were abandoned and really the whole let's eat the little ones thing (what is it with cannibals in fairytales? Shudders) thing was a bit alarming, but on the other hand that did make the ending all t
It is a universal story for children, of all ages or eras. I recommend it to kids, because reading books now days is becoming a dying fenomen and less and less people read them. Now that everything has been wrapped by technology, even books can be read on tablets, or phones, or other gadgets. Kids are the ones who should be encouraged to read the most because they are our future and these books make their world a colorful, beautiful place to enjoy and have fun, but also learn
So this is the same story I have heard before. Children who are abandoned by their parents in the woods find a witches house made out of sweets and start to eat, the witch eats people and tries to eat Hansel and Gretel kills her and they go back to their father with riches and live happily ever after.
Perhaps I didn' t enjoy this story as much as others by the Grimm brothers as there was nothing new to it.

I've read all of the Grimm Brothers tales before and I momentarily forgot how dark this one is. A cannibal witch, parents who left their children in the woods to be devoured by wild animals (TWICE). But Hansel and Gretel's bravery still shines.

Ah! La paternidad según los hermanos Grimm... XD
The translation edition is pretty neat and free from typo. I don't like the illustrations though...

This fairy tale is tragic!

First, the parents can't afford to feed their children so they begin to leave them out in the woods until they cannot find their way back. THEN they get caught by an evil witch who makes a house out of bread so she can trap, fatten up, and feed on little children. When they finally rid of the witch and steal her jewelry, they found their way back by crossing a stream on the back of a duck. But at least they are all happy in the end.
I am not impressed.
The narrator chose to voice all the characters as Southern (USA), when the stories and characters are German, which puzzles me quite a lot, I must say.
The story was decent enough, and her narration was good, it's the dialogue that's cringeworthy if you think about the origins of this tale by the Grimm Brother's.
Not that I can complain since it is a free audiobook by LibriVox *shrugs*

Reading this for one of my college classes was truly a treat. Being able to analyze it in class and learning a more in dept meaning than having it viewed in a child's perception truly mind-blown me. A really good and classic fairy tale.

Didala
