The third novel of adventure set upon His Majesty's New World. After two relatively successful missions on the new world, the b'ys of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment are enjoying some well-deserved rest. This is a terrible thing to admit about the third book in a series, but this is the first book in it that is actually good. The others of course were strangely addicting which is how I got to this one, but Tam steps up on this one, with a good plot, a fair bit of decent action and some genuine character development. While as ever the Newfies are more than a little too much there is a lot more attention paid to the story, this may however be that it is just so much less than in part 2.

The take away is that in this volume the series has moved from quirkily interesting to a genuine guilty pleasure.

Been going to Hal-Con for a few years now, and have made it my mission to pick up as many Indie books as I can. I'm a huge comics and Batman fan, but beyond that I haven't read a lot of books, aside from what I was forced to in high school or University. But I'm finding things I like in these indie titles.

It's a good story from start to finish, with interesting subject matter. It's based around the Newfoundland Regiment, had they not all died, and if they'd later discovered the gateway to another world. That makes this incredibly niche. Do you like reading? Do you like stories set around Newfoundlanders? That also happens to be historical fiction? That also is science-fiction? By the end of those 4 questions, the buying populace must be very small. And I admit my inability to relate to the characters and their Newfie lingo (which I cant attest to the accuracy of) is all that keeps this from being a 5 pointer. It, and the other books in the series, are gracefully written and paced. :)
