Is that a really big kitty in Cooley's suburban back yard...or a new way of looking at the world?

Miss Nicola Johansen, otherwise known as Cooley, relies on the predictability of her suburban subdivision to keep her feeling safe. When she spies a black panther slinking along her back fence in the wee hours of the morning, her comfortable life is shaken like a maraca. Repeat

A quick and enjoyable read. I loved Cooley's character, and it was fun to observe her weird neighbor from Cooley's perspective. And the ending was a big surprise. (view spoiler) I didn't see that coming!

The only problem I had with this book is its ending. The cliffhanger nearly killed me. I wanted to know what happened next and the story simply ended there. Regardless of the torturous cliffhanger, the story in general was still worth

An interesting intro to this new series, Cooley's Panther left me searching for a sequel and wondering "What happens next?" What a fun story! Cooley is a bit of a neighborhood busybody who just "knows" the new guy down the block is hiding something. And that something has to do with the big, black cat that roams past her yard now and again. How is Cooley supposed to find peace in her peaceful neighborhood when there are secrets being kept?

A well-written teaser of an urban-fantasy short story, which leaves open as many questions as it answers. Why does the heroine call herself 'Cooley'? What's her big secret? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!?

I'm supposing this is a fair sampling of Wallace's literary style. I hope she intends future installments, as this particular tale (tail? Ha. I slay myself. >.>) felt as though it was just getting to the good part when it cut off.

This was such a well-written and fun story. After I bought it, I planned on reading the beginning and finishing it later. But I couldn't stop reading. I kept wanting to see what would happen next. I thought I guessed the ending but when it came, it was a surprise that made me laugh out loud.

This was the perfect short story. Every time I think of it, I feel good.

I find it frustrating when a book ends on a cliff-hanger and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. I understand this is supposed to be a 'teaser' but it's really only half of a story, if that. I was annoyed enough about it that I deleted the book and have no plans to follow up on it. The author should learn how to balance "teasing" for follow-ups and telling a solid, if short, story.
