About the author

Nigel Blundell is a journalist who has worked in Australia, the United States and Britain. He spent 25 years in Fleet Street before becoming an author and contributor to national newspapers. He has written more than 40 books, including best-sellers on crime and royalty. He co-wrote the Top Ten exposé Fall of the House of Windsor, which first revealed the so-called ‘Squidgygate’ tape and the infidelity of both Princess Diana and Prince Charles. His other factual subjects have included military history, celebrity scandals, and ghosts and the paranormal.

My mom bought this particular book from the series when I was 9 and being the knowledge-hungry person that I am, I devoured the book within a day. It' funny how stupidity sometimes can leave a great legacy.

الفصل الاول - شعوب و اماكن
-الخباز اللى احرق منطقة شاسعة من لندن فى حى معروف ب كثرة الحرائق فيه و ربما كان هذا السبب فى عدم اهتمام المطافىء بالحضور سريعا لذلك المكان لاعتيادهم ان الحرائق فيه تطفىء بواسطة الاهالى و لا داعى للاسراع فكانت الكارثة
-عن دار اوبرا سيدنى و التكاليف الباهظة التى تكلفتها فى البناء وا لصعوبات الهندسية و الفنية
-عن كرسيتوفر كولومبس اللى اكتشف امريكا ب الخطأ ظنا منه انها الهند
-عن مدينة مونتريال و استضافتها للالعاب الاوليمبية و تكاليف مالية باهظة ثم خسارة غير محسوبة
-عن عمال المجارير فى لندن الذين و بالخطا قاموا بفتح غطاء بالوعة فى قاع قانة مائية و تركوها ليفاجؤ بعد ساعات بان القانة قد فرغت تماما من المايه و التى ذهبت كلها الى النهر الواصل ب القناة عبر بالوعة التصريف تلك
-عن مدينة حدودية بين انجلترا و روسيا كانت فى حالة حرب و حينما تم امضاء اتفاقية سلام بين البلدين سقطت تلك المدينة الحدودية الصغيرة سهوا من الاتفاقية لتظل رسميا فى الاوراق لا تزال فى حالة حرب حتى جاء مسئول روسى الى البلدة بعدها ب 110 سنة ليعلن السلام بين روسيا و تلك المدينة :D
-من الفصول اللى وجعت قلبى فى الكتاب دا قصة اكتشاف و مصير جزيرة تاهيتى ...حينما اكتشفها المستكشفون لاول مرة كان سكانها حوالى 40 الف نسمة بلا دين و عراة و يمارسون الحب علانية كرماء مع الاغراب لهم عادات و تقاليد اصحاء جسديا جزيرتهم نظيفة و جميلة للتحول خلال 200 سنة و بسبب المستكشفين و الغزاة و المعتدين و الاغراب اللى جزيرة سكانها 9 الالاف يرتدون الملابس يعتنقون المسيحية غصبا و يعاقبون بانفسهم ابناء جلدتهم ممن لا يدينون بها ... لديهم مراباة و سرقة و جريمة و امراض جنسية و ملابس و بيوت و خيانات زوجية ...كل ذلك بفعل حضارة المستعمر الغربى و اللى المفترض انه عمل له تحضر و تطوير !!!
-عن الناس الذين اعتقدوا بالخطا انهم اصطادوا وحش بحيرة لوخ نس ليتضح انها مجرد فقمة "كلب البحر" مات و رموها موظفى الحديقة فى البحيرة ليطاده هؤلاء المغفلين
الفصل الثانى - البحر و الجو
-فصل مشوق عن المصير الاسود لكل من سخر و اكتشف تابوت و مقبرة الفرعون الصغير توت عنخ امون ...يمكنك القراء المزيد و المزيد من التفاصيل فى كتاب انيس منصور عن نفس الموضوع لعنة الفراعنة
و كتاب اخر ل راجى عنايت بنفس العنوان لعنة الفراعنة (أغرب من الخيال)
-فصل عن ملابسات غرق التيتانيك..كان يسبقها سغن متجهة نفس الاتجاه و كان قبلها سفن متجهة ب الاتجاه العكسى و بسبب اهمال عمال اللاسلكى على السفن فى الاتجاهين تأخرت النجدة عن التيتانيك و بسبب قلة عدد مراكب النجاة مات حوالى نصف ركاب التيتانيك
-الشابان الذين اختبائا فى حجرة العجل على طائرة ليبيرية منطلقة من كوبا ذاهبة الى مدريرد هربا من النظام الشيوعية و كيف مات احدهم متجمدا و الاخر وصل فى حالة يرثى له و لكنه ظل حيا
- قصة مشوقة عن التجربة البريطانية لبناء منطادين احدهما بالطريقة الراسمالية ار 100 و الاخر على الطريقة الاشتراكية ار 101.... ار 100 كان سيسافر من لندن ل كندا و الاخر من لندن الى الهند و يعودا ....نجاح ار 100 و فشل مروع ل ار 101
- قصة مضحكة عن فشل البحرية البريطاينة فى السنين من 1917 و حتى 1918 فى بناء غواصات تجريبية بدءا من ك-2 و ك-3 و انتهاءا ب ك-22
التجارب كلها فشلت متسببة فى مقتل 250 بحار بريطانى و 0 بحار المانى ههههههههههههه
-كارثة السفينة تورى كانيون صاحبة اكبر مصيبة تسرب بترولى فى العالم و الصور الشهيرة ل طيور نورس مغطاة ب الزيت تصل ميتة الى الشط المغطى بدوره هو و الماه ب بترول اسود لزج
- اسوء حادث تصادم طارئتين فى العالم احدهم شبه متوقفة بان امريكا و الاخرى KLM منطلقة علىا لمهبط بسرعة 160 ميل ف الساعة
ليموت كل ركاب الطائرة الهولنيدة و يصاب اغلب ركاب بان امريكا..و ذلك كله بسبب وجودهم فى المنطقة العمياء بالنسبة ل برج المراقبة و الذين كان يستعمل موجة راديو واحدة و 2 معطلتين لادارة ملاحة كل الطائرات
-قصة قاذفة القنابل ب -52 الامريكية و التى اصطدمت ب الطائرة اللى المفترض بتمونها ب الوقود لتسقط هى و 4 قنابل هيدروجينية كانت تحملها غير مفعلة..لتسقط 3 منها على قرية بالوماريس الاسبانية و تسقط الرابعة فى البحر المتوسط لتقلب عليها امريكا البحر بالغواصين و الغواصات طيلة 3 اشهر خوفا من تجدها روسيا فتكشف اسرار تصنيعها ..
سميت العملية ب broken arrow ألسهم المكسور فى فيلم ب الاسم دا
و فى فيلم اخر عن قصة حياة اول غطاس امريكى اسود ف الفيلم هو اللى لاقى القنبلة الرابعة فى قاع المحيط
-مرة اخرة قصة فشل بريطانية فى مجال الجو و اختراع طائرة عملاقة ف الاربعينيات "بريستول برابازون" تكلفت 12 ملليون ج استرلينى لوضع 75 كرسى فى حين ان امريكا كانت تصنع طائرات تتسع ل 150 كرسى
و فى النهاية بيعت خردة ب 10 الالاف ج استرلينى :D

الفصل الثالث - ضحايا و اوغاد
- سرقة القطار العظيمة
-فصل مسلى عن ملوك مزورى الفن اللوحات و التماثيل ..و كيف انهم احيانا حينما كانوا يملون من انه لا كتشفهم احد فيعلنوا عن لوحاتهم المزورة ب انفسهم و كم من لوحات و معروضات سحبت من متاحف بعد معرفة انها مزورة و احيانا من مزورها نفسه
- الكتاب كليفور ارفينغ و تزويره ل سيرة رجل الاعمال هاورد هيوز و ادعائه انه قابله و انه من سمح له بكتابة قصة حياته فى حين ان هاورد هيوز كان معتزل تماما عن الصحافة
-اظرف قصة فى الكتاب عن منصة المشنقة التى قام المساجين انفسهم ببنائها قسرا فتعمدوا وضع لوح خشبى للارضية مقوس ...ف المكان الذى يقف فيه القس و حينما يفعل ذلك اللوح يستقيم فيستطيل فيمنع باب المشنقة من ان يفتح ...و كلما جرب المهندسون بعدها و طبعا فى غير وجود معدوم او القس يفتح باب المشنقة بصورة سلسة ..

الفصل الرابع - منتصرون و منهزمون
اقل فصول الكتاب
الفصل الوحيد الممل فى الكتاب
مجرد قصص تقريرية مملة عن معركة كذا و دخلها الجنرال فلان والتف حول جيش كذا و قتل كذا ....يجوز الترجمة المملة الرديئة هى سبب ملل الفصل و يجوز انه لا يوجد به ما هو مشوق بالنسبة لى انا على الاقل

هو امتع و اظرف فى تناول كيفية انتهاء معارك و حروب معينة فى ظروف غريبة او بسبب الاهمال او الغباء او الصدفة الى نتيجة غير متوقعة

I personally found this book different in a way that I really enjoyed. It sucked me in at the beginning with it's first story about how a forgotten stove fire burned down 13,000 houses and blackened 300 acres when it could've been stopped with just the turn of a knob. Most stories I had never heard before and had me giggling to myself the whole way through. One of the best plots was when the CBS radio station in 1938 was trying to get more viewers, so they hired a theatre group to do a play over the station. The group had the wonderful idea to trick the listeners into believing there were actually aliens that landed on Earth. I could imagine myself believing in the story because they were so descriptive in what the aliens looked like and were doing. Another one of my favorite stories was the "Unsinkable Titanic", it had me wanting to yell at the captain for not slowing the boat down. If he would've just followed the instructions he was given, he could've saved over 1,500 passengers. Since everybody believed that the Titanic was unsinkable, nobody thought anything of the iceberg at first because they believed it would have no effect on the boat. It was supposed to be the best of it's time matter of fact. Overall, this book has given me knowledge about the World's most forgotten moments, and has helped me explain why certain things are the way they are.

A collection of short articles on notable failures - some quirky one-liners in boxes, some lasting for ten or twelve pages, most of a very easily readable length in between these.

As a coffee-table or toilet book, it was OK - and since I only paid 25p for it, I can't complain. However, much of it wasn't new to me, the writing style was pretty plain, and I just felt it a little inconsistent - both with regards the length of the featured articles, and the awkward juxtaposition of (for example) newspaper adverts containing double entendres with explicit descriptions of military failures in which thousands were needlessly slaughtered.

مجموعة من القصص التاريخية القصيرة عن الإخفاقات مع أوصاف صريحة للإخفاقات العسكرية التي تم فيها ذبح الآلاف دون داع.
من المضحك جدا أن نرى كيف بدأت أكبر الكوارث عن طريق الخطأ مثل حريق لندن. او عندما حاول الرجل القفز من أعلى مبنى إمباير ستيت، وقد فجرته الرياح وهبط على عتبة النافذة المكونة من ٩٤طابقا.

Did you know the French once suffered a casualty of 25% on friendly shots during wars just because of a major mistake in strategy?
Or that the Titanic crew had been negligent in equipping itself with the right number of boats?
So many facts about mistakes some of which will leave you laughing so hard.

This book was very interesting and a fun read. It is very funny to see how the greatest disasters started by mistake like the London fire.My favorite story was when the guy tried to jump off the top of the empire state building, he got blown back by the wind and landed on the 83 floor window sill. Great read fore anyone!!!!

I love this book. I received it as a birthday present in 1980. Read about the Kamikaze pilot who missed his target and survived to run a take-away in the States.

The author's purpose in writing this book is to explain how people are not always perfect. People make mistakes. Some mistakes are funny, yet others are not so. Yet, they are all mistakes made by humans.

The theme of the book is that nobody is perfect, even if they think that they are. In this book, it shows you many examples of how mistakes can be costly or fatal. Other mistakes are not so bad, like bringing an escaped lion cub into your house or a bride who married the best man.

This book is an example of a description because it doesn't stick to one time period. The date of each topic jumps everywhere. I felt like I was time traveling to see all of these mistakes happen first hand. This book does a good job of giving great detail to the bigger picture of each topic.

I liked this book. I like how the book gave me details, information I didn't know before, and took my mind off of other things. I didn't like how some of these topics were up to 6 pages long while others went as short as half a page. If I would change anything, I would make all the mistakes funny mistakes instead of there being mostly informational mistakes. I have not read a book like this.
