This was OK, but the beginning was improbable - not so much that the female protagonist would have her gun stolen, but that, just after taking her to task for leaving her gun in her car, the male protagonist hen suggest they go off together without her gun. Unfortunately, the whole mystery plot revolved around this. Though the action in the book was enjoyable, it was impossible to get around this initial premise.

My husband and I read this mystery together, fthus the slower pace to finish reading. We both really enjoyed it. The characters were fun to get to know, and the plot was good. I'm looking forward to reading more books in the series.

I liked that Russ and Sydney knew each other before the events in the text. Their conflicts were totally believable. What I didn't buy was Sydney's up and down relationship with her sister Nikki - too many changes too fast.

I kinda liked the story, but parts of it ugh. To preachy for me kinda took away from what it could have been

In Behind the Badge, Susan Sleeman has pulled off another riveting, love-inspired suspense. Sydney Tucker is a rookie cop who receives threatening phone messages, insinuating that someone may get hurt unless she turns over crucial evidence taken from the home of a drug bust. She’s in a quandary, as she has no idea what that evidence could be, as she didn’t take anything from the house.

Under the order of Logan Lake police chief, Russ Morgan, Sydney is assigned to work with him to find who is behi

A new book from Love Inspired Suspense, by Susan Sleeman, you will want to read! Sydney Tucker is in a position that most young women do not find themselves in, and certainly a position that few police officers are in. Sydney and her sister are the target of a murderer. While visiting the house site of her new home being built, Sydney witnesses a murder and then barely escapes with her life. But now the killer is on her trail and will use Sydney's sister Nikki, to lure Sydney out into the open. ...more

Like all good "Love Inspired Suspense" books, Behind the Badge is a fast read with an encouraging theme. And this book has a great hook! (Pardon the rhyme, but it works!) Chapter One places the reader in the middle of a hide-and-seek/chase scene with a creepy killer, and it introduces us to a strong hero who might just have a tender heart beating behind the badge.

The action kind of dissipates after the first chapter, replaced by a simmering-beneath-the-lid suspense that focuses most of the atten

Book 2

I really struggled with this book. I wanted to give it a lower rating, but enjoyed the last few chapters that I upped my rating a star. I really liked Nikki and the fact that she wanted to get to know her mother. I can totally understand her attitude toward her sister's unwillingness to listen. I liked Russ, though I thought he was a bit dense when it came to separating his job from his love life. In the end, I liked Sydney. I think she really learned a lot. I just think

I'd actually give this book four stars on plot but three minus on relationship development. It's great to look into the importance of raising children alone ... even if it is as an older sister, but the tension between the two characters felt more like junior high school than adult. Spoiler alert: "He said he can't do what I do so he doesn't want my children!" That was worth a whole book of angst, really? One misunderstood statement isn't enough to build relational tension for a whole book and t ...more
A killer sends taunting text messages to rookie cop Sydney Tucker, threatening her younger sister. Even being taken to a safe house doesn't help, and this frustrates both Sydney and police chief Russ Morgan. There are few red herrings in the story, and the reveal of the villain wasn't all that surprising; most people will be able to guess his identity before the final chapter. The book starts out with Sydney making a very stupid mistake while trailing a criminal, and I kept hoping that she'd get ...more

The original premise worked for me because Russ and Sydney knew each other before the events in the text, which always makes a fast-moving romance feel more believable. What didn't feel believable to me was Sydney's up and down relationship with her teenaged sister Nikki. Nikki turning to Russ when Sydney didn't believe her made sense, but there was too much teen angst, especially for a kid in a life-threatening situation.

I never really connected with the main character . I know she was a rookie but she seemed so incompetent! I love Russ! He was great. The suspense part was a little silly. It comprised of polite texts mainly. Not my favorite book but it really wasn't terrible. Love the author and look forward still to book #3!

Such a great book and a fast read. I love the story and how God played a key role. You don't see that much in mysteries and I think it was a perfect touch.

really liked this one, good pace, and nothing dirty. But the female lead I would really get mad at, for a cop, not to bright!!
