Comprehensively researched by expert writers who live, work, and play in the Scottish capital, the Edinburgh Guide offers complete and critical round-ups of the arts and entertainment and the inspiring sights, architecture, museums, and galleries of the "Athens of the North"; overviews of trips into the Scottish Highlands and rolling Borders; survival tips for the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe; help on where to stay, what to eat, and where to find the best shortbread and whiskey; and extensive and detailed coverage of trendy Glasgow. The guide is key to any adventure in or around this unique city.
Time Out Guides are, hands down, the best! Part magazine, part guidebook, this compact guide combines the traditional things you expect to find about itineraries, where to eat, and what to do, but also includes LOTS of callout boxes with topic focused articles that help you get to know the city better. For example, on page 175, there's a listing and descriptions of six essential Edinburgh films, on page 141 you'll find an article about "Edinburgh's Other Castle, All of the history, none of the crowds." For my next trip, I'll definitely try to pick up a TimeOut Guide.
Extremely helpful - packed with useful information: Concise but informative. I particularly liked the way it gave the price of entry to museums etc - this helped me plan where to go more cost-effectively. I will definitely look for a Time Out guide to the next city I visit.
