Most of the mi- croscopic life is shown in magnificent color drawings. Every popu- lar color variety of koi (Japanese colored carp) is illustrated in the book's over one hundred full-color illustrations. Dr. Axelrod was the first Westerner to visit the koi ponds in the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. He wrote the first koi book, too.
