Betty Sue Gains' father was the first farmer killed in the Mesilla Valley land stealing scheme. She went to the law, but Sheriff Brady Cole couldn't cross to the east side of the Rio Grande to bring those men to justice. U S Marshal Shorty Thompson was sent for, but had not yet arrived. Alone, with no mother or father, she couldn't take care of the farm alone. Fortunately, the Carter family took her in. Fourteen-year old Betty Sue visited, Leslie Trousdale, an ex-lawman, and convinced him to teach her how to use the forty-five she wore on her right hip. She had already brought down several of the outlaws with her .44.40 Winchester repeating rifle, as well as the Las Cruces Sheriff, but more would soon follow. Jody Carter, her best friend, asked her to marry him. "The day I turn eighteen," she said. "And not one minute before!"

Constantly impressed with this series of stories, only wishing I could have read them in sequence. Doesn't really matter I guess, as each story stands alone. Mt. Paul Thompson does an excellent job in every respect of a great, and successful author.
As I have stated so many times, this series deserves more than the five stars allotted. I am yet to find any of these stories that aren't impressive, in both storylines and character selection.
Each story, although they are stand alone, are well written and very descriptive of our old western adventures. I recommend these stories without hesitation, and believe me, you are the loser if you fail to purchase each and everyone. I am trying to read all of them, but a couple have eluded me thus far.

In the novel the marshal and Clay Allison team up to chase down stolen paint horses worth thousands of dollars. They track the outlaws with the help of the two young owners. They chase them through Northern Arizona into Southern Colorado. They find the horse thieves are part of a gang of rustler:'s.
This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

I truly enjoyed this fine Western Tale. It is well written and edited with a great plot. Always like it when good wins over evil!

As I read this one I was seeing the area around Denver & Pueblo area in my mind made it more interesting. Lots of facts and suspense as always. Very good read

NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT
These parents were truly loved by their twin sixteen year old sons. Now these loving parents are dead murdered by paid assassins to rob them of their pure blood painted horses which were exported from Spain, by their father. A total of five breeding mares and one stud all stolen. The mother lived long enough to tell her son's who stole the horses and with those last words she died in her son's arms.
The hunt is on for the painted horses and the men who stole them, for a man who ran a ranch called the Double Bar, which was nothing but a hang out for owl hoots on the run from the law. These bushwackers, maruders, unethical bunch of men for a price could lay up at this ranch for a price. There was never less than fifty men languishing around the ranch. The man who owned and ran this ranch of debauchery was named Beckett..a scoundrel in his own rights. He stole those painted horses and stole cattle for the Smiths, Stadler's ranch. The Smith's family were free RANGERS and they made their living selling cattle(free ranged=no brands running wild). This bunch from the Double Bar, stole approximately two thousand head of cattle. So now U. S. Marshal Shorty Thompson and friends are called upon to help settled all these life altering problems. This is fast quick draw action. You all will love this adventure. This author doesn't play down the effect of what the women did aiding, standing side by side with their men defending their lives. Sometimes and many times they were left to defend the homefronts by themselves, with their children's help if they were old enough to handle rifles or pistols. Read and Enjoy...
