His chatty tone annoyed me and when I finished I couldn't really think of anything I actually learned from it aside from the definition of 'gunk-holing' and what a feathered paddle looks like.

Also, the man is obsessed with life jackets.

This book was very helpful. I read it, bought a kayak, five minutes after it was delivered, I was paddling around a lake and grinning like a happy idiot. Nice book for beginners.
