No horror chamber was ever so fearful as coming to grips with a fierce lion; or a hungry, raging bear; or a boastful, profane, bragging, blasphemous, giant; but these were the chilling experiences of the boy, David. Relive these experiences with him in this masterful retelling of the favorite Bible story and at the same time learn how to fight and overcome the enemies of your soul.
Amazing book. How God remains faithful to a man who is entirely depending upon Him. So inspiring during the time of suffering when your own friends and relatives betray, there is one who never betrays, never abandons and that the Almighty Creator, The Caretaker.
I read this book in December 1978 and wrote about it then, "Excellent, especially for early teens. Scriptural." I have just reread the book and concur with my earlier assessment though I think all ages can enjoy it [I certainly did]. The depth of Scriptural truths woven seamlessly into the book seem even more impressive- perhaps because my knowledge has increased in the 40 years+ since I first read it.
This book was amazing. I absolutely love the fact that David remained faithful to God even when it was hard to. How God never abandon David even in the toughest of times. He made a promise 15 years prior to David, and he delivered on that promise. It’s amazing to read about the struggles David had to go through just to become who God wanted him to be. The trust his men had in him. Just an overall amazing book.
This story takes you through the life of David from his battle against Goliath to God's promise of an eternal throne. It does a nice job of bringing the biblical story to life and adding in practical application along the way. I am glad to be able to share this story with my students.
I remember reading this for school as a homeschooler for English. It's a thin book but enjoyable, a fictionalized account of several of the stories of David in the Bible.
Well, of all the stories the Bible illustrates us, this is one of the most famous and widely known. This book was a good read since it is actually a writing meant for children, so I didn't have to struggle through lines. It was fun and it reminded me of the stories I used to read when I was a child. It was really good to go back in time and enjoy some time of great happiness by going through my memories. Regarding the book, I have to add that I consider very brave of David to go through all of that trouble and always keep his faith in his God. It is very clear that not everyone today has that kind of faith, not only in God, but also in people. David trusted in his God but he always kept hope in Saul's repentance; the very man that was trying to kill him! Who of us might have the faculty of forgiving someone even during the act of being persecuted by that someone? I think we can get a very good message from this beautiful book, and some wise advice too.
