Jhoon Rhee is a 10th degree black belt and known as the father of American Tae Kwon Do (Korean karate). Born in 1932 in Korea, he arrived in Texas in 1956 while serving in the Korean army. When his army service commitments were fulfilled, he began promoting the study and promotion of the Korean self-defense art of Tae Kwon Do.

Since his humble U.S. beginnings with a class of 40 students, Mr. Rhee now has more than 60 affiliated Tae Kwon Do studios in the U.S. and 65 in Russia. (compiled from books and website)
