A poignant story of a donkey and his master, our Savior, Jesus Christ. We follow these two through their lives together from the perspective of Meshak, the donkey, and his devotion for his master.
“In his presence, I felt security, safety, and love.”
“I knew my master would come for me again and again and again. And he did. I carried him wherever he went until the day that his legs were no longer than mine. Then I followed him, carrying whatever things he chose to put on my back. It was an honour—my honour—to be his beast of burden.”
“ How I wish I could speak and tell him with words how wonderful I thought he was and how I was sure the people would remember many of his teachings.”
“It was then that his precious little hand reached out of that special blanket and I felt my master’s touch for the first time. I was changed forever. I was as new to this world as he was, yet somehow I knew that I would follow him all my life. We came into this world together and we would go out of it together.”

I read this book many times when I was a preteen. I think the donkey’s view of Jesus, the relationship they had, and its understanding of the light inside of people have probably shaped some of my understanding of Christ and love for the world to this day.

I’d like to reread it now that I’m an adult and see what I think now.

Simple story about the life of Jesus narrated by a donkey that was with Jesus through his whole life. I liked the perspective of "light" being seen within each person.

#50/50BookQuest categories= holiday book, recommended by a friend, book you could read in a day, and book with an animal on the cover.

A sweet story of a burro named Meshak and his trusted companion Jesus, with some loving guidance from Mary. As Jesus fulfills his ministry we learn from him, and through Meshak’s advantage the power of faith, trusting in the light that can fill our souls, the value of lifting burdens and the benefits of following Him even when we are heavily laden.

Wow! This is a tear-jerker. But, I love how simple it is. This is a very basic story of the Savior's life, told from the point of view of his donkey. It's a great Christmas read, simply because it focuses on the Savior, and what it means to let him be part of your life. I love it! (Plus, it's really short and can be read in one sitting, which is nice during this hectic time of year.)

Oh my heavens... if you're an animal lover, and you have a heart, you'll probably cry your eyes out like my family and myself did. This is such a good book about Christ's life through his donkey's eyes. A different point of view, yes. But still so very tender.
