Small towns like the imaginary "Farr Point" have a strange dynamic. It is only a slight exaggeration saying everyone knows everyone else and everybody knows everyone else’s business. They can also seem insular, with few outsiders moving in and out. Sixty years ago, when this story takes place, this would have been even more true than today. In this coming of age story, Eddie Tipton, a teacher's son, is in his last year of high school. he and his mother have just moved to Farr Point, Texas, land of oil. Dalliances with his much old landlady leave hims conscience torn, meanwhile his curiosity is piqued about the death of her husband, and his heart is broken over the loss of his best friend.

Farr Point was a good read, that was well paced and seemed to fly by (too fast!) I couldn't put it down and especially enjoyed Sam Haven's wonderf
