Thrill to the Early Adventures of the Caped Crusader! In 1943, Bob Kane’s Batman first entered the pages of newspapers across America and became one of the most famous creations in comic book history. But, because of wartime paper restrictions, these strips were sparsely circulated and too rarely seen. Now, this elusive and much-prized work is gathered in two complete, gene ...more

While Batman has had a long career in comic books, he also had a much lesser known turn in the comic strips from 1943-46.

The Batman Comic Strip appeared for a small newspaper syndicate and was wrought with challenges. This book collects all the daily strips (with the Sunday strips being in another book.)

For my money, the first six strips are fantastic. They feature great stories that are packed with mystery, action, and poignant moments. In one strip, Batman is shot and lies near death's door in

Golden Age at its best. Dieses Buch ist uneingeschränkt empfehlenswert ...more

The BATMAN AND ROBIN comic strip is something like the holy grail for Batman collectors. The problem is that readers can see how bad it is now that the dailies have been collected in three volumes. This final volume has some relief in a story drawn by the great Batman artist Dick Sprang before he became a great Batman artist. Still, it is a big improvement over the stories by Batman co-creator Bob Kane that make up most of this book. There is also a bit of relief in the last story in which inker ...more

In addition to the comic books, there was a BATMAN AND ROBIN comic strip in newspapers from 1943. It lasted only a few years. The five stories reprinted here are from 1944-5 and very in quality. One is a kind of film-noir and a lot of fun. Batman does not appear in costume and it is the only story not drawn by Bob Kane. The first story is decent, but the others are misfires, all of them some kind of dumb. I award two stars for average story quality, and an extra because it is wonderful that they ...more

William "Bill" Finger was an American comic strip and comic book writer best known as the uncredited co-creator, with Bob Kane, of the DC Comics character Batman, as well as the co-architect of the series' development. In later years, Kane acknowledged Finger as "a contributing force" in the character's creation. Comics historian Ron Goulart, in Comic Book Encyclopedia, refers to Batman as the "cr ...more
