A well-produced book of 40 or 50 Matisse paintings (with some sketches), each faced with a relevant (but not actually related) thought of the artist's. This one is fairly typical:

"Slowly I discovered the secret of my art. It consists of a meditation on nature, on the expression of a dream which always inspired by reality."

Um, OK. Not sure it's more than what we all expect of any original artist.

Nice review of his kinds of work, though...

"When I make my drawings...the path traced by my pencil on the sheet of paper is, to some extent, analogous to the gesture of a man groping his way in the darkness. I mean that there is nothing foreseen about my path: I am led. I do not lead."
