The only thing worse than being a spinster is being a twice-jilted spinster. At twenty-five, Catherine Morgan is hardly an old maid but she's given up on marriage and instead manages the family's general store in the small town of Revenge, Ohio. Bound by a promise to care for her three sisters until they marry, she'll do anything it takes to keep them safe. However, the town's sheriff has evidence that may stand in the way of her sister's happiness and her own. Revenge can be stronger than love. Will a vow for vengeance arrest Catherine's third chance for love?

This book was a gift and my first by this author. For a story that is part of a series called "Love Finds You," this was not really much of a romance at all. Secondly, it made use of a couple of my pet peeves, misunderstandings that go on too long without discussion, and secrets.
Now for the positive: this was a decent historical fiction mystery and I could not figure out who the villain was until near the end of the story. The author made good use of red herrings and did not pull in a stranger as the culprit at the last minute like so many writers do.
I could go on for a while with more pros and cons but will resist; suffice it to say I gave the middle of the road rating.
I'm used to Lisa Harris as a suspense writer, so to find out that she wrote a book in the 'Love Finds You' series was a bit of a surprise. What was even more of a surprise was how suspenseful this book ended up being. I don't recall any of the other LFYs being like this. I liked it! Catherine and Corbin were definitely an interesting pairing. I liked that they had a history together, even though they'd been separated for 7 years. I thought it was good that they each had a BIG issue to work through before they could become what God wanted them to become, and was glad to see them encourage each other as tentative friends before they allowed themselves to 'test the waters' of renewing their romance. As to the suspense? WOW! SO many twists and turns that I did not see coming, and the reveal of who the murderer was? Yikes! 3.5 stars
With a series title like "Love Finds You In..." you expect the plot to be focused on a romance with some conflict thrown in to keep you wondering and reading until the end. This story was more focused on finding the Masked Gang than the romance between Corbin and Catherine. Catherine's character was a bit impersonal and cold so I never really connected with her. I would have liked to see a few light moments between Corbin and Catherine to see her softer emotional side. If you are someone who likes a lot of mystery, you will enjoy this book it just wasn't what I was looking for.
Copyright 2009. This is a reread. Clean, Christian romance. The hero does kiss the heroine.
This is one of the better Love Finds You books I've read. Most read like fanfic, but this author has some talent. The plot is convoluted, but even though you might believe the heroine was wronged, there's another side to the story. The mystery & action at the end add to the enjoyment.
A very good historical fiction romance filled with sheriffs, outlaws, and pretty girls. Good characters and a good storyline make this another enjoyable Love Finds You book.
I thought Catherine's anger at her father for abandoning her family and everything she had to give up to raise her sisters in his absence was well developed. I even thought that the fact that her younger sisters' memory of their father was more rosy due to their youth when he left was a realistic conflict.
What I absolutely hated was how every single character told Catherine it was wrong of her to be upset with him. I could see them saying that her anger means letting him ruin her future as well as past, etc., but nope - Catherine is apparently wrong to tell her sisters she doesn't like their dad because he ruined her life, challenging their rosy memories of him. She's apparently wrong to feel bitter that he didn't return to raise his children, who were MINORS, after his wife's feather leaving her - a young teen- to do so.
I was so frustrated with everyone's treatment of Catherine that I couldn't finish the book. That and halfway through the book something is revealed about her relationship with Corbin that is a minor twist - but what is revealed was not a secret to either party. It's annoying for the author to keep something a secret from the reader in order to create a twist that each POV character knew all along.
ROM COM to a T. I skimmed the first bits b/c it was Corbin still likes Catherine, yet can't she can't love him its been to long. Catherine still like Corbin, but its been to long-he can't possibly love me. For the majority of the first few chapters that I read with a few tidbit about her family thrown in there to keep the story moving and add some dialog. I skipped over the middle section to the end and found out lo and behold they save the day and Corbin comes back to Catherine. Bow tied- happily ever after.
It was fun to read a story set in Fairfield County. Though the town of Revenge no longer exists, it was neat to read about what it would have been like. Catherine was a stubborn leading lady, and the sheriff was also obstinate. It was a light read with outlaws, the invention of the telephone, and a rekindled flame.
I have read a lot of love finds you books… This one was AWESOME!!! It kept me guessing all the way to the end. I’m not usually tempted to read the last chapter and spoil the rest of the book for myself but I almost did twice because I needed to find out who did it. Read this one when you have time to sit and finish it lol!
Such a good story!! A little over 200 pages in, I thought the ending was wrapped up with a little red bow and wondered how the rest of the book was going to play out. The entire book was a ride, but the ending had multiple twists and turns I didn't expect!! This is probably one of my favorite stories in the series so far!! :)
What I liked most about this book is that the author did not just brush tough situations away. There was a lot of talk about mistakes, forgiveness, and revenge. The romance was really second nature, even though you knew who you were rooting for to get together.
twenty-five year old Catherine Morgan is unwed by choice. She only wanted to keep her mother's death request to take care of her 3 younger sisters. But with the new Sheriff in town, and her old love. Is she willing to love again or let the past stay in the past.
Loved this book. I have read a couple of the books from this non related Love Finds You "series" and have the rest on my TBR list. One thing... I am Sorry it took me so long. I listened and listened and to so many books... but the ONE book I needed to actually read I kept putting off. I want to do better next read with actually making time to read physical books. I can at least read during my lunch hour.... though listening with my headphones is easier while I eat. I really want to. I used to Read so many more physical books. I know, they count the same and I have gotten a lot more books done this year thanks to the audio books and the time I spend driving and waiting for my kids. I also cheat myself to often on taking my lunch break... anyway... it's a goal.
I needed a revenge book. This one kept me guessing. It was fun. A very likeable family and community. Great characters. Mystery. Revenge of course, and a sweet romance... a couple of romances actually. Loved it.
wow there really was nothing to like in this book. Very little love just robberies kidnappings and murders. i wont read it again and I for Sure will NOT recommend it
Frankly, this one wasn't my favorite, but it was so much cleaner than I had expected that I just really thought that was really cool. Other than that... it was fine. Not quite my thing.
She's been jilted twice, and Catherine Morgan has no intention of letting it happen again. Every man in her life has failed her - including her father, whose abandonment left her responsible for her three younger sisters and her mother. She's vowed off of love and marriage and devoted herself to running the family's general store and keeping her sisters safe and happy until they find good husbands to take over the job.
Things are handled. Everything's going smoothly.
Then Sheriff Corbin Hunter shows up in the small town of Revenge, Ohio and turns Catherine's world on end. He left her once, and now she must decide whether she can trust him again - this time, with her sister's heart. Corbin's evidence points to Audrey's fiancé as the head of an infamous criminal gang. In her efforts to prove otherwise and save her sister from heartbreak, Catherine finds her own heart responding once again to the man who jilted her seven years ago.
As if Corbin's reappearance isn't upheaval enough, news of their father's death arrives to further upset the Morgan sisters. Though Catherine has no love left for Isaiah Morgan, who couldn't be bothered to be a husband and father, she must deal with her sisters' grief and her own lingering resentment.
Corbin Hunter wants the man who killed his father, and he'll let nothing and no one--certainly not the girl who broke his heart seven years ago--stand in his way. His desire for revenge could cost him the love of his life.
Love Finds You in Revenge Ohio is packed with the essentials of good reading: fun, faith, mystery, romance, bad bad guys and a heroic hero. Well written, with lots of plot twists to keep those pages turning, details authentic to the time period, likeable (and some not-so-likeable) characters, and the kind of ending that makes for loyal readers. Good stuff!
This is the second Love Finds You book that I have read and I enjoyed another visit to a town that I had never heard of before! When Sheriff Corbin comes back to town, Catherine’s neat little life of caring for her three sisters is thrown into an uproar. He walked out of her life once, and she is afraid he will do it again if she gives him the chance. And add to this fear, Corbin is trying to ruin her sister’s engagement by blaming a murder on her fiancé. This synopsis of the book instantly grabbed my attention – a mystery with a love story!
The characters were well described and the past history between Corbin and Catherine was something the reader slowly discovered – making it a book that kept me turning the pages. There were a few spots in the writing that I had a problem with it…namely that I didn’t feel very connected with the characters. They weren’t that personal to me.
The mystery part of the book was good. I was kept guessing…though was surprised at who the murderer ended up being. I don’t want to give it away, but suffice to say that it wasn’t who I was expecting until halfway through the book…and then I was a bit disappointed at the murderer. I really can’t say why without giving it away, so you’ll just have to read the book to draw your own conclusions on that! :-)
As a whole, this book was an entertaining read, but I have not felt the desire to pick it up again to re-read (which is normally how I feel after I have finished a good book!). But I am glad I was able to read it. The ending was rather calmer than I would’ve imagined for the story, but it resolved everything nicely.
I reviewed this book for Christian Review of Books. The thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
3.5 stars. Catherine had to take on the responsibility of raising her 3 sisters for the past 7-8 years because her father left them to pursue his love for gold digging and striking a fortune. She also lost the man she loved because he was scared to marry a whole family. Tormented with these memories, she works hard and presses on until Corbin, the man she was engaged to returns to town and takes on the job of a sheriff. Someone's been robbing banks and murdering people and Corbin is on the gang's trail and needs to avenge his father's murder! All of this is happening while Catherine protects her family and her heart and hopes that God can help her through it.
It was a really good story and one of the better ones from the Love Finds You books. I love the historical romance without too much details at all (Christian based). This book shows courage, hard hearts, and deception, and of course revenge.
When I first read this book before joining GoodReads, I found it dull and boring. Reading it this time around hasn't improved it much. Catherine lived in the past too much and couldn't let go of old hurts. Corbin likewise couldn't let go of the fact that Catherine broke it off with him. The romance was practically non existent, and the religious angle was very subtle, but what rankled about that was the fact that the characters didn't seem to have a good relationship with God, and the only one concerned with that fact in their own life was Catherine! While I was able to read this fairly quickly, it is not one I would own or re-read again.
I liked this one. It had a lot of the old western elements that I love, like the family general store, handsome cowboys and of course bank robbers. The overall story and writing I would probably give four stars, but the romance is closer to a two, maybe a three. I liked Corbin and Catherine, I would have liked a bit more wooing between them. There is a lot of drama for Catherine's family, but I loved how close the sisters were and really relied on each other. I thought it was a fun read.
Interesting family dynamics back in the time of the gold rush. The oldest daughter became responsible for her three sisters after her mother died and there was no word from her father. She her love that she didnt love him anymore rather than have him turn her down when he found out that he was getting a ready made family. Well when he returned to Revenge the excitement begins and he was on the tracks of the bank robbers and now have to wonder how the answer or person will cause harm to this family.
My Mom gave me quite a few books in this series, this was the first I read. It wasn't bad. A small town in Ohio faces bank robberies in surrounding areas, and part of the bank robbing gang is suspected to be from this town. The sheriff that is brought in is also a lost love interest of one of the Morgan sisters. The story is set in the 1880s and was easy to read.
This was a very good book, that I enjoyed reading. It was an easy read, with likable characters and setting. I wasn't jumping out of my seat as they say, but it was a good book. Not great, but definitely good.
This was a wonderful way to kill some time and relax after a long day. There was more mystery involved in this story than I had expected and what a pleasant surprise it was! Love Finds You in Revenge, Ohio makes it to my favorites list for the Love Finds You series.
