I am not entirely happy with how things ended because dayum!

Burn for Burn and Fire with Fire are some of the best high school revenge stories I've ever read. Han and Vivian manage to create drama that doesn't feel aimless or overly melodramatic and characters with incredible depth and growth. Wow, it sure is crazy how much this book didn't live up to the hype I had for it. I loved Burn for Burn. Fire with Fire was just okay, mainly because it felt like some of the characters didn't act like themselves and the whole reveal about Mary the Ghost. I really hated that reveal. Sadly, Ashes to Ashes takes all of the things that I didn't like from the second book and intensifies it here.

The ending was bittersweet/sad. This book was just all over the place, which is perfectly fine when it comes to the fact that there are three protagonists (Mary, Kat, and Lillia). The issue was that there were too many problems/issues that were either handled too quickly, took forever to be addressed, or barely brushed over.

As a person who disliked Mary since book 1, I enjoyed the fact that Mary didn't have as many chapters as Lillia or Kat did. As a person who likes Lillia, I was ecstatic to se The ending was bittersweet/sad. Kat ended up being treated like a background character, which was not cool at all.

I was really happy to see Lillia and Reeve's relationship develop in this book. It became obviously clear that se was the light of his life, and he was the one that she truly loved. (Hey, I ship these two. They're so sweet around each other).

I really loved seeing Reeve's character fleshed out. It was nice to get more of a backstory on him, his home life, and why he's who he is.

I didn't enjoy the fact that Alex Linds (who was one of my favorite characters, besides Kat, Lillia, and Reeve) ended up being used as plot device to create drama between Lillia, Reeve, and him. He was barely there in the book, besides being whiny over the fact that Lillia liked Reeve, and then ignored Lillia like an immature 8-year-old. It was also upsetting to see how little he and Kat interacted (although, that might also have to do with how little chapters she had in comparison to Lillia). What's even more upsetting is that most of the time the two interact, it always had to do with his harboring crush on Lillia. I missed seeing the two being friends.

While I was glad that Mary was getting little chapters, I hated how scornful she was. She immediately concludes to herself that Lillia and Kat are both traitors, and therefore she must seek revenge. It was very immature and just proved how little she valued their friendship. She even whines at one point about how "Lillia and Kat didn't even bother to look for her," which was absurd because Kat did try to figure things out. Maybe if she focused less on obsessing over Reeve, she would realize that her friends were worried for her.

The book was fast-pace, intriguing, and was on parr with the other two books in the trilogy. It was exciting, terrifying, and kept me on edge (especially towards the end).

And then the ending/epilogue happened. THAT IS ONE ENDING THAT IS JUST TOO DEPRESSING.

It couldn’t have ended worse. I was disappointed I really, truly wish I hadn’t read this last installment because it ruined the whole series for me. God, it’s midnight and I’m so fucking close to sobbing my eyes out I can’t believe it. I feel like I never want to read another series ever again.

I got no peace, no resolve, no nothing – and I don’t even require these soapy happy endings most of the time but this, THIS is completely inacceptable. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover what I’m feeling right now. Devastated is more like it.

So what happened was that basically Ashes to Ashes tore my heart out, ripped it to pieces and never bothered to put it together again. Everything just went to hell from the beginning – each and every one of the story lines. I didn’t like the outcome for either Mary, Kat or Lillian - instead I’m left cheated out of my deserved ending. I’m so upset after finishing this I’m thinking I never ever should have picked this one up, I should have just stopped reading after Fire with Fire. First I couldn’t put this book down because I was too curious and then because it was too horrible – morbid, I know. I still can’t believe I didn’t dnf it. At least then I would have kept my piece of mind. So now I had to suffer through the disappointing twists and turns of this last horrible installment to my otherwise favorite YA series which, to make matters even worse, completely lacked the shocking revelations of the first two books. No, all we got this time was a set of off-putting, completely senseless turns that leave a bad aftertaste in my mouth, like something just isn’t right. Mary is mopier than ever, Kat is just somehow hanging in there but has no real story line of her own, and I can’t even talk about Lillian. Lillian's tory was complete and utter bullshit, although my guess is that the authors went for the shock-effect, but well it was so 'shocking' that there's no way I'm buying it. And worst of all, it dragged on for nearly 600 pages (in ebook format). I still don’t know why I was so sure I’d get my satisfying ending but of all the ways this could have ended this wasn’t one of them.

This series is so ruined for me, and I can’t picture myself reading it ever again. I adored the first two books but there’s no way I’ll be recommending this to anyone. Anyone who expects a proper ending to a great series will be inevitably frustrated, annoyed and in the end, speechless, like I am. When I read the ending, I thought there had to be a mistake, maybe there were pages missing or something but no. I still don’t know what the author was thinking an author has to do something like this but if I’m to ever write a book I’ll give my novels an ending more deserving than this.

Gosh, after this I really need a break from reading.

Well, that was a freaking Indian soap opera. You know it’s crazy and unrealistic as hell, and yet, you find it hard to take your eyes off the screen – in this case, page. I expected a lot better ending from the authors who write some of the best realistic fiction I’ve known, but looks like they went a bit overboard with the supernatural plot.

Angry enough for caps. Ugh, I'm so annoyed! This had so much potential to be great with amazing closure BUT NO. After a fantastic start book and an absolutely epic follow up, I was sure that Ashes to Ashes was going to go out with a bang and cement this series as one of my favourites. I waited (very impatiently) after the cliffhanger in Fire With Fire and I am so fucking mad that THIS is what I got. There will be spoilers in this review but I will hide them under a spoiler tag because everyone needs to know HOW FUCKING ANNOYED I AM.

First of all, most of the story was okay. We had Lillia being a QUEEN and we learnt more about Mary, but it was all very brushed over. Lillia was flawless as usual RIGHT UP UNTIL THAT DAMN EPILOGUE. I enjoyed the Mary stuff and there was, of course, some Reeve and Lillia drama.

I say “some” drama but what I really mean is that Han and Vivian threw it at us readers in spades. I spent most of the book sobbing because MY OTP. I just love Lillia and Reeve so much, you guys. It was a Veronica and Logan situation and it was so fucking good.

WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF MESSAGE ARE YOU TRYING TO SEND HERE, HAN AND VIVIAN?? THAT IF YOU PINE OVER A GIRL LONG ENOUGH AND KEEP SENDING HER GIFTS AND TELLING HER THAT YOU DESERVE HER MORE THAN OTHER MEN THEN SHE WILL EVENTUALLY FALL IN LOVE WITH YOU? BECAUSE THAT’S THE KIND OF MESSAGE THAT I GOT AND IT’S FUCKING DISGUSTING AND I FEEL MILDLY DISTURBED BUT MOSTLY JUST FURIOUS.

I really, really, really hated that epilogue. And not just because I didn’t like what happened in it, but because the story was in NO FUCKING WAY resolved as it should have been. There was no wrap up. No ending. The chapters just ended and then we got a three page epilogue that brushed shit aside and undid everything that I ever loved.

I even created a special shelf JUST for this book (and I have since added others that are a load of fucking pointless shit) because I HATED THAT ENDING SO MUCH. JUSTICE FOR LILLIA. JUSTICE FOR REEVE. JUSTICE FOR KAT.

I never want to think about this series again because I am so disappointed by Ashes to Ashes and that epilogue that I think I might cry forever. I’m DISGUSTED. You don’t wrap up a trilogy in a three page epilogue. You don’t have a beloved character go back to their abusive parents. You don’t let one character go swanning off into the sunset with a nice rich kid while everyone else barely gets a mention. This was an okay end to the series, but I found the pace quite slow.

Mary really became quite psychotic in this book, blaming Reeve for her suicide – like he made her do it! Lillia was totally head over heels for Reeve, and Kat was Kat.

The storyline in this was about Mary getting her revenge on Reeve, but the pace was really slow, and it seemed like not a lot happened compared to the length of the book.

The ending was okay, but I was pleased it was over by that point.

Pretty sure that was one of the worst endings I've ever read which really sucks.

The second book was so good and I was so excited to see what would happen next and it was just disappointing. Only one thing was resolved in the end. It felt like all the build up throughout the trilogy fell flat.

Ashes to Ashes had great moments, it had okay moments, it had horrible moments.

What I really enjoyed about Ashes to Ashes was the suspense. Readers were on-edge the whole time! This book is a definite page-turner. Having no idea what was going to happen next, I kept reading. There were lots of twists and turns, things I never saw coming. The plot truly attached itself to the reader.

The three points of view really brought the story together as a whole. Each point of view was necessary and contributed to the story in some way. I felt that the pacing was off a bit. Sometimes I felt like the things that were happening were so not necessary at all! If I took whiteout and covered everything I thought didn't need to be there, this book would be 100 pages long. That's it. I felt that everything was drawn out way too long.

Romance was not a weak point in this book. There were tons of cutesy scenes, many pages were shrouded by my blissful and dazed gaze. I couldn't stop grinning at some of these adorable scenes. This is definitely one of my favorite ships!!

I can't (coherently) explain my thoughts on the ending so here's a gif to help show what I'm feeling:

The ending kind of pulled the rug out from under me. Something I truly wanted to happen, something I was rooting for, fell apart. I'm not going to lie, the ending tarnished this book's reputation for me. I felt the ending wasn't really necessary. It came out of left field and not in a good way. Ashes to Ashes' ending makes no sense. It adds no significance to the story; it kind of just happens. Who knew that authors could kill a bookish vibe in two sentences?? The things that happened afterwards were just plain sad. I'm conflicted because I did like the last three sentences of the book. This reaffirms my opinion that not every book needs an epilogue.

Filled with suspense and romance and a great theme, the final book in the Burn for Burn series brings an "interesting" end to the revenge-driven series that may or may not please fans.

Overall Thoughts
All I gotta say it that this was such a fun and addictive series! Not to mention just totally off the charts with insanity. It really ended up going somewhere completely weird and unexpected but totally awesome. The second book was by far my favorite cause it had the most twist and turns. And everything leading up to it was just pure fun high school drama and who doesn't enjoy that? lol Really enjoyed this series. Seriously, read it.

It was great being back with my favourite characters once more, yes their lives had been thoroughly shook up since the last book and I wanted to know how everyone had been coping with it. Of course things had gone downhill way than I’d expected, I don’t want to discuss spoilers, but if you’re a fan of this series you’ll know what I’m referring to within the first four chapters. Honestly it broke my heart, I knew that the only way a lot of the characters would get through this would be in the comfort of each other, and that’s what I wanted, I wanted them to go back to the way things were before. But I knew that would never happen, especially with one character stirring everything up, I disliked this character in previous books, I didn’t really want to spend time with her chapters either and it was the same again this time around, but this time she either just had me in full on vex mode or with my heart in my throat. Honestly I think this person would be scariest person to be around Halloween, I would never like to cross paths with her, I know that she had been through her fair share, but if everyone else was moving on why did she have to come and wreck everything? I think she would need to listen to the frozen song Let it Go a few times. Along with this character I only had one other irk (view spoiler) Okay let’s just pretend that didn’t happen, I’ve actually already suppressed it. Moving on there were some delightful moments that brightened up the crushing heart moments, scenes which left me with a dopey grin on my face and left me re-reading some scenes over and over again.

Han and Vivian did a wonderful job with this book, in fact this entire series never has one of these books let me down, they were the sole destroying, punch in the heart, butterfly creating books that I have come to love and hold close to my heart. You’re probably asking Jasprit are you feeling alright? But honestly books which evoke this many strong emotions are my go to books as they’re the ones that end up leaving a great mark on me amongst the 100 or so books I read a year, they’re the ones which have characters which you wished existed in real life and whom you’re actually tearing up about having saying goodbye to, the ones that anyone touches a hair on their head, you would like to go into a hulk smash mode for. This series was one that tore and sewn my heart back together multiple times, but it’s a series that I have no regrets over reading. Any books that Han and Vivian write in the future (can we have more collaborations please?) I know I will be pre-ordering immediately!

i think this novel can go a variety of ways — the characters are all so complex, and we still have to learn more about mary.

(to be honest, i haven't forgiven reeve for what he did to her. just because he's sweet on lillia doesn't mean anything. you can learn a lot about someone by the way they treat people who matter to them, and then the people who don't. i'm not falling for his ~*~nice guy~*~ act quite yet. not after he told mary to go fuck herself.)

What an ending!!!

I absolutely loved this series, it was so quick, engaging, crazy and exciting! Every book was a 5 stars read in this trilogy.
I think my order from fav to least fav would be:
1. Fire with Fire
2. Burn for Burn
3. Ashes to Ashes
But honestly books 1 & 2 were almost equal in how good they were!

Extremely unsure about how I feel about the epilogue though! I’m gonna need time to think about that one!

I can't decide if this was underwhelming or overwhelming.

The story itself was fine, but it was just so dark and heavy. What was a fun revenge story in Burn for Burn turned into a book about suicide, and hauntings, and it was just super depressing and freaky. Know before reading this--there is lots of death, and self harm and suicide attempts and the death of a pet. It's not a lighthearted Jenny Han read if that's what you're going for.

Also--that ending sucked! Lillia totally should have ended up ...more
