Finding God in the Story of Amazing Grace

Rate this book
As the major motion picture hits theaters this spring, the best-selling coauthors of the Finding God series explore the true story of how God's amazing grace ended the British slave trade. With profound reflections drawn from the lives of two men, William Wilberforce and John Newton, who wrote the beloved hymn, the authors reveal God's grace in our everyday struggles and show how he uses even the smallest of events and weakest of individuals to implement his grander plan in this world.

I like that at the beginning of the chapter there is scripture and at the end of the chapter, there is one sentence recap. "It is by God's mercy that we are brought low." The book is packed with wisdom for such a small book. Really enjoyed this book.

A wonderful story of God's Amazing Grace. We can grow in Grace by being reminded of what others have accomplished through Grace. I am always encouraged by stories of those who have struggled and still managed to follow Christ. Everyone struggles with what is the right path for our lives. Seeking godly counsel is one way to ensure we follow God's will. What would the world be like now if the slave trade was alive and well? Thankful to these men for pursuing an end to it.

In the introduction the authors state that this is a story based on the life of two great men - John Newton and William Wilberforce. They gave me fair warning that it was not a strict biography, and that would have been my preference. So the fact that it was not exactly what I was looking for was my own fault. Nevertheless, there were several true historical facts about each life. And it is a very easy read.

Appreciated this book very much! I loved the brief views into Newton's and Wilberforce's lives, as well as the authors comments on them... very informative and inspiring. I loved how each chapter was on a different aspect of God's grace, making it easy to see God's hand working in these two men's lives. I also must say that the size and cover of the book was perfect :).

Thoroughly enjoyed this book about John Newton & William Wilberforce. How "Amazing Grace" was written and how each of them came to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and knowing his grace in their lives. Great read!
