Feeling like a teenager again reading this book. Mathematics is a good useful subject I had never be able to put my fingers on why I’m never good at it. May be this is the way I should have been introduced to variations, unknowns, and equations.
an introduction to Algebra - it covers a lot - from the concept of equations to methods to solve... includes linear equations as well as quadratic... presents basic identities, shows graphical representations, describes the Pascal triangle and even touches the binomial theorem... but the best part is its application - illustrated thru stories (magic, games, real life situations) and that actually brings it to life...
the book is for middle grade students - i doubt that a student at that level will grasp everything - but it will serve the purpose if it intrigues them and inspires them to explore further... and opens their mind to mathematical thinking...
I have always wanted to read a Murderous Maths book as it’s always been a favourite with my nephew - but never managed to - till now... and wish that I had a chance reading such books growing up...
The Phantom X has a special character: X. I played lots of math games as I read this book and even convinced mom to play with me. Unfortunately, she didn't agree. The game I convinced her to play was a calculation system with X. Finally I showed her the bottom of page 65 and she didn't even seem surprised.
