A wonderful adaptation! Many of the tuneful melodies from the award-winning motion picture have been expertly captured by veteran arranger Bob Cerulli for your intermediate orchestra. This was an audio book and I foud that listening was a lot easier than reading. I love the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, but I gained this love through the films by Peter Jackson. At the risk of upsetting true Tolkien Fans, I found the beginning of the book heavy going - so much so that that's why I gave up reading this book and chose to listen to a recording of it, which made it easier. I love the characters but at times I found the old fashioned language of the book, especially the dialogue quite cringy and at times when the scene was meant to be exciting and full of nail-biting moments, this dampened the gravity of the narrative for me somewhat. At other times, the dialogue, mostly of Gandalf and Aragorn, was breathtaking and the descriptive prose of Tolkien absolutely delightful.
The narrator was not fair of voice when singing the 'songs'. I would have preferred it if they had employed a proper composer and singer for the singy bits which were at best unbearable at times. None the less, I enjoyed reading/listening and am pleased that at last I have been able to tackle this masterpiece.

This book is the first of three, and its about a hobbit named Frodo and his quest to destroy the one ring of power that his uncle Bilbo found, and kept for many years . He gave it to his nephew for him to destroy to create peace and destroy all evil. He goes on this journey as the ring barrier with a group of 3 other hobbits named Sam, Pippin, and Mary. Along with an elf named Legolas, a wizard named Gandolf, a dwarf named Gimli, and two humans named Boromir and Aragorn. Together they are called the fellowship of the ring and they go through many battles and difficulties with Orcs, Ringwraiths, Trolls, and Goblins during this novel and the other two as well. I love this book and the series itself for the compelling and amazing adventure that it has, and how my imagination goes wild as I read it. One thing I didn't like about this novel was the length, and I wish it was a bit shorter.. but in all reality there was nothing wrong with this book and I LOVE IT.

Chapter 1 Feb. 16
In the first chapter, not a lot of adventure happens. It's a mash up of simple facts about the Shire, Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey and the One Ring. In the movie, they had a lot of things cut like for example, in the book, Bilbo had dwarves helping him out during his party and escape from the Shire. Another one would be that Frodo had some visitors 'taking' things from his house at Bag End. In my own opinion, Seeing the all the details in the first chapter would have been between pointless and worthy of seeing. Nothing much has happened except for Bilbo going along his plans to go on his last adventure.

The Lord of the rings: Fellowship Of The Ring is about the adventure of old Bilbo's nephew Frodo Baggins. Frodo is forced to leave the Shire when he is alerted that great evil is coming for the ring that old Bilbo left behind. With the help of his friends, Sam Gamgee, Pippin, and Merry, the four hobbits receive a destination from the wizard Gandalf, a volcano.

Delightful, astoundingly enjoyable book. Loved reading, even though I am not a fantasy fan normally.
