This little pocket guide has served me well on two trips to New York now - first in spring 2011 and recently in spring 2019. I find Rough Guides enjoyable and accessible. This guide offered some great inspiration for my latest trip, including example itineraries and best of NYC ideas. Exploring each distinct area of Manhattan in quite some detail, you will find useful lists of shops, restaurants, bars and music venues. This Pocket Rough Guide is engaging, with lots of photos and maps, as well as bite-sized history. One of my favourite features was letting the traveller know whether an activity is free or not. Do however note that some of the content is now out of date, and that there is a newer edition available. I wouldn't say that this guide was amazing, but for what it is it's very good and definitely deserves 4 stars. I carried this guide with me everywhere, and would highly recommend for a trip to NYC.

A condensed guide, but informative all the same. An alternative view from my usual taste for "Lonely Planet" guides, but a surprisingly enjoyable one. It also comes with one of the better subway guides, showing more accurately the difference between express and local routes.
