Kama Sutra: Including the Seven Spiritual Laws of Love

Rate this book

An inspirational new version of this ancient text from one of the world's best-loved voices on spirituality.

Bestselling author Deepak Chopra links sexuality and spirituality in an exciting new interpretation of the Kama Sutra. Two thousand years after the Kama Sutra was written, Chopra reveals how this surprisingly modern book can be read as an inspirational spiritual text that can help to elevate the erotic experience to new levels of spiritual ecstasy.

Beautifully illustrated throughout, Deepak Chopra's Kama Sutra is a modern and definitive version of this sacred and popular text.

The Kama Sutra is many things: a venerable ancient text of India; a marital aid sneaked furtively into the bedroom; and to many people throughout the ages, a scandel. But now, in an exciting new interpretation of the text, acclaimed author Deepak Chopra reveals that the Kama Sutra can also be read as an enlightening spritiual guide.

For the first time, one of the world's best-loved voices on spirituality links the universal themes of sexuality in a dynamic - even controversial - way with a brand-new translation of his country's most cherished text. Deepak Chopra reveals how the Kama Sutra is not only a study of sexual pleasure, but also an inspirational spiritual text that elevates the erotic experience to new heights of ecstasy, and discovers a text that was remarkably modern for its time and one which is as relevant as ever to our lives today.

Divided into three sections - including a new interpretation of the Kama Sutra as well as Aphorisms on Love and the Seven Spiritual Laws of Love - the book is stunningly illustrated throughout with beautiful, specially commisioned artwork. Deepak Chopra remains loyal t o the original Kama Sutra and his ability to uncover its profound sacredness makes this unique book a modern classic and a definitive version for generations to come.

Warning the physical copy of this book is thin, however it's absurdly big. T he text is big, the title is big, and the illustrations (although they are beautiful) are also big; therefore if you're coy or the easily embarrassed, please be aware that you'll need private time to read this book. With that being said, I don't believe in embarrassment and am a Scorpio, so I really don't have any problem with sexuality or sexual content. I've read the Kama Sutra several times and have practiced it as well, but this book is loosely based on that and is more like the interpretation of The Kama Sutra but in an unorganized, scattered, cliff note approach that I'm not use to this Author writing in. It's a quick read and the steps and laws are good however not what I expected.

It is an interesting take on the Kama Sutra. Deepak does an excellent introduction where he explains the Kama Sutra is a 'how to' on pleasure for all five of the senses. He describes the ancient Indian perspective that pleasure and delight of the senses is s sacred and significant experience for humans, not something to be denied or to be shameful of. He calls Kama Sutra "an anecdote to shame" because the Kama Sutra celebrates our carnality without judging or discouraging it. Deepak links sex to spirituality and fulfillment, warns of the Western view of sex as shameful sacrilege in that, "Shame makes you feel that you are not good enough and never can be. It’s the last part that is so deadly to happiness.”

The book does get into more erotic language, and of course poses, but nevertheless provides a very warm and encouraging space to ponder the connections between love, sex and spirituality.

I loved this book because it is like 4 books in 1!

1. Introduction to Kama Sutra, it's origins and it's deaper meanings. I have laughed through most of the pages.
2. Second section has some peotic verses about love, universe, desire and being. Great inspirations to turn to every day.
3. Third section was Deepak's own 7 spiritual stages of love.
4. Last but not least, each page is full of beautiful erotic and peotic illustrations which indeed make it a great coffee table book.

A very interesting book. The seven spiritual laws of love apply to everyday and everyway of life. For us to create this love..we must be real and comfortable in who we are, in doing that we can achieve all seven of these laws. A very GR.....

It’s so big!!! That’s what she said.
The book is large, you can’t take it with you to work and read on your break or when you have down time.
I believe exploring your inner most desires and unleashing the siren within is great for you health, sanity and creativity but this read wasn’t what I expected or what I was searching for.
If I wore panties they would be dry just like the read.

The linking of sexuality and spirituality - truly lovely and inspiring (!) and the pictures and sentiment are magical - not what people usually think when the words karma sutra are mentioned :-)

He presented me a gift card from a bookstore and some sex toys for my 30th birthday and said, "I believe you like this kind of stuff". I didn't like the toys but I got myself this book and I fondly remember him for that gesture...

I love the book because it's so much more than "how to fascinate and get a woman and pleasure her" which is the original bundle of sutras. We, human beings evolve with time and it is lovely to see this progress of our hearts and minds in the comments given to the original text.

I also love the drawings and amendments made by D. Chopra.

Provided a great intro and explanation from Deepaks point of view. As I read it I had to chuckle at some of the instructions regarding relationships and behaviors. However there were some that gave me moments of pause and allowed me to see that there is truth to this day with insight Vatsyayana provides. I resonated the most with the poetry and spiritual connection that Chopra provides at the end of the book.
